Humanity has been plunged into chaos, the coronavirus was followed by far worse viruses altering human consciousness and terraforming the Earth beyond recognition, how long can you keep your sanity?

It is recommended to play on hardcore to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the apocalypse, where you have no margin for error.

Artistic description of the main features

Explore rapidly infecting cities, abandoned trains, hotels, bunkers, airplanes and other remnants of civilization, just beware of the creatures living there, they are known to be very aggressive to humans and have a variety of abilities, there are as slow, fast, flying, and destroying any obstacles in their path, some of them are representatives of fungal species and have a collective mind!

To survive among crazy creatures, you will have to take a lot of risks, explore the most dangerous places in search of food, cold weapons, armour and useful materials from which you can make guns, which, in turn, will give you a better chance of further survival

In order to have a better chance in running away from hordes of different critters, it would be very useful for you to learn some elements of parkour

To survive as long as possible, you need a base, right? But a base without defensive traps will be destroyed quickly, so stock up on the necessary materials to build your home defenses

Will you be able to find some remedy to clear the fungal infection and if not save the world, at least slow down the development of this devastating disease, or was the world doomed from the day it all began?

Detailed description of the main features

Over 250 structures: motels, banks, offices, military bases, hospitals, cities, bunkers, highway sections, abandoned houses, watchtowers, schools, crashed planes, overgrown trains, and much more. The list goes on for a very long time, and exploring all these structures won't get boring even after dozens of hours of gameplay

Realistic terrain generation and over 50 new biomes. Remnants of civilization await you in vivid locations: scorched wastelands, volcanic plains, dead forests, peat bogs and foggy swamps, wheat, poppy and lavender fields, pastures, hot springs, islands and tropics, canyons, and even biomes infected by mycelium... This is just a small part of the places where you will have to survive

You will face 100 types of zombies with different stats – from slow and tough to fast but fragile. They all possess advanced AI: they can speed up, break blocks, climb on top of each other, and will get to you by any means necessary. A particular threat is the rare fisherman zombie, capable of hooking and pulling towards itself either you or an item from your hands. Furthermore, the world is inhabited by numerous mutants with unique abilities, who use regular zombies as food

A deep parkour system gives you more maneuvering options, increasing your chances of survival in the hardcore mode. You will be able to grab onto ledges, land with a roll to reduce fall damage, climb walls up to 5 blocks high, and much more you'll have to master yourself. However, remember: all parkour actions consume stamina. If it drops to zero, you will be unable to run for about 10 seconds until the bar recovers – and this can lead to fatal consequences

Over 90 loot tables for practically every structure in the world. Each table is carefully balanced, corresponds to its location, and contains from 50 to 600 unique items, guaranteeing immense variety and high replayability. Locations of different difficulty offer completely different loot. For example:

Cities hold a wealth of useful materials, food, armor, and, of course, weapons (including guns), but the buildings are infested with zombies and extremely dangerous. Go there well-prepared, at your own risk

Alternatively, you can avoid major cities, with lower risk, by looting abandoned houses, watchtowers, and other small structures. There you will find less valuable loot, but it should be enough for minimal survival in this extreme environment. At least, one can hope...

Over 100 types of melee weapons – from shivs and clubs to katanas with electric or fire modules

Over 40 types of armor – from biker helmets to juggernaut armor

A huge assortment of food: canned goods, alcohol, energy drinks, sweets, snacks, cockroaches, rats... and much more fitting the zombie apocalypse theme

Numerous materials needed for crafting weapons (both melee and guns), armor, traps, and explosive devices

Over 200 models of guns and more than 150 attachments for them. Also included are detailed crafting recipes for all guns, balanced according to my personal formula, and a gun rating system calculated using the same formula

The large industrial mod Mekanism significantly expands the ceiling of your possibilities and progression. It adds many new ores, types of armor, tools, and various processing machines. They can be used to craft special materials or for efficient ore processing, multiplying ingot yield several times over. Furthermore, various materials from this mod are used in creating special types of guns

Over 50 specially selected music tracks that complement the apocalyptic atmosphere and immerse you in this dead and hopeless world

3 shaders to choose from, selected to match the overall stylistic theme of the modpack, with custom settings that enhance the grim picture of the apocalypse. Even if you play without shaders for some reason, the Better Clouds and Fog modifications are enabled by default, making the game visually more pleasing without shaders

Great attention is paid to optimization. You will be able to play even on a fairly weak computer while enjoying smooth gameplay

Here are a couple of illustrative performance examples on different systems:

(FHD) Xeon E3 1270 + Radeon RX 580 (4 GB): 60–600 FPS (AVG: 200) without shaders; 30–110 FPS (AVG: 70) with Insanity and Spooklementary shaders

(QHD) AMD Ryzen 5 5600 + GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (16 GB): 120–1000 FPS (AVG: 400) without shaders; 60–180 FPS (AVG: 120) with Insanity and Spooklementary shaders

Metrics may fluctuate depending on the situation. You will get the highest FPS values indoors and underground, and the lowest FPS – during horde invasions, when killing masses of zombies, and in particularly large locations like cities

Guns Rating System

Version 1.7.0 introduces a guns rating system in order to give the player more insight into the power of a particular gun

  • Level 1 - Iron (0-50 rating)

  • Level 2 - Emerald (50.1-100 rating)

  • Level 3 - Gold (100.1-200 rating)

  • Level 4 - Diamond (200.1-300 rating)

  • Level 5 - Ruby (300.1+ rating)

Listen for sounds in any room or underground - there may be block-destroying zombies heading straight for you!

Get armor, firearms, and gunpowder as soon as possible to have any chance against the creatures on the surface. Remember that the fungal infestation is increasing every day, so don't stay in one place for long unless you have a very well defended base

Mine minerals in large caves at your own risk, who knows what lurks in the dark....

Fungus-infected mutants have increased vulnerability to cold, so they are slower and weaker in winter biomes. They also take damage from snowballs, so you can attack them with snowballs if you don't want to get close to them

Copper - is an extremely useful resource for firearms and ammo, so don't bypass it

The starting structures in the modpack are taken from the Open World Zombie Apocalypse map!

A little bit about playing with friends

You can use e4mc (this mod is already in the modpack) to play with friends, or if you want to play on a third-party hosting server, you will need to download an additional file called The Beginning of the End [server] x.x.zip, which contains all the mods and configurations needed exclusively on the server side. You will only need to add the folders from the archive to the hosting and select forge version 1.20.1 forge 47.2.32. I'm not sure if newer versions of forge will work, so I advise you to install 47.2.32 specifically.

Starting with The Beginning of the End [server] 1.5.0 the forge 47.4.0 is used

Modpack requires minimum 8 GB RAM in the local game and minimum 6 GB RAM on the server side

In this modpack, you will often die and start over, it's normal and it's designed that way, you have to think over tactics and play very carefully to survive

When you create a world, you don't need to go to the Lost Cities profile and select anything, everything is pre-configured for you. Changing the settings manually will cause chunk generation errors!

  • Bliss shader updated and his settings improved
  • Landscape generation has been slightly improved, now rivers are connected and lead to large bodies of water, and coastlines and beaches have become more diverse and realistic. There is also more vegetation in many biomes
  • Big bunkers are now very dangerous! This place is overrun by fungal mutants
  • Zombies have mutated! They have learned to climb on top of each other, are no longer afraid of heights
  • The hordes are slightly modified and rebalanced. Now the night of the horde comes every 10th day
  • Overall speed parameters of all types of zombies have been lowered, but now they can sprint from time to time. In addition, there is a 33% chance that a runner may appear who will follow you without stopping
  • For those who play without shaders, fog and clouds have been improved to make the vanilla graphics look more pleasant (This will not affect performance in any way, and these fog and clouds will automatically turn off when any shader is turned on)
  • Zombies with backpacks have been changed, now their potion effects are disabled, and they no longer play music
  • Russian translate has been updated and improved
  • Some structures have been improved
  • Weather effects changed and improved
  • The chance of finding guns in most loot tables has been reduced

Oh, this was one of the most hardest updates I've done, I think you'll really like it because a lot of effort, time, and most importantly, soul and ideas have been put into it! I wish you good luck in your new adventures through this sick and gloomy world

As in previous updates, there are many global changes that will affect your current worlds and the items you already have in those worlds, so I highly recommend you start over by creating a new world

  • Cleaned all weapon icons (Except Applied Armorer) and almost all attachments icons. Also, all colored text has been replaced with plain white (Except for ammo, weapon magazines and Applied Armorer gunpack) to be more in line with the uniform style of the modpack.
  • Spore mod bosses now have 3 times more health (This is because you have a lot of strong firearms :D)

  • Globally reworked recipes for all firearms, they now have a greater variety of materials to fully reflect the appearance and effectiveness of a particular firearm, and are calculated using my new formula, which is designed to improve the balance of the modpack and make it easier to add new weapons. Removed

  • With this update, the overall quality of firearms in the modpack has been improved, so several firearms have been removed and a few more replaced with higher quality variants. Removed: 10 (MU73, MUA73, MA90, CSG19, SMG08/18, RMG Mod.1970, Steyr Model 1912, Steyr Model 1912/P16, Lpm Mod.2020, CBR11 Infantry). Replaced: 5 (QBZ-95-1, P90, FN P90 | PAW Extension Kit, FN P90 | EFFEN90 Rail Kit, Detonics | Combat Master 1911)
  • A few mobs have been disabled
  • Removed many biomes that do not fit into the atmosphere of the modpack
  • Removed unnecessary music from the biomes of the “Nature's Spirit” mod (doesn't fit the atmosphere)
  • Nether and End are now disabled by default

Mods

  • Starter Kit (Now its role is played by the starter chest in the bunkers you appear in)
  • Starter Structure (Replaced by bunkers)
  • Simple World Timer (Replaced by Typewriter Day Counter)
  • Redirector (Conflict with new versions of ModernFix)
  • Horror Elements (Caused a number of problems that led to the decision to abandon the mod)
  • Blocky Siege

Fixes

  • Removed 2D lods of firearms that had them (It looked terrible from the outside)
  • Removed duplicate saturation scale replenishment information in food prompts
