Respecting the past, but not worshipping it
Too many people argue whether Alpha/Beta was better than Modern Minecraft, or vice versa, but I've always felt those arguments were meaningless. Alpha is good, Beta is good, modern is good, they're all good in their own ways. The modpack's goal is to try and merge Minecraft's modern day with its past, so all eras of Minecraft can co-exist.
This isn't a big overhaul mod like Reminiscence or Taproot (go play those modpacks btw, they're good). This is a vanilla+ modpack that has some quality-of-life mods here and there, alongside few new additions and changes that respect Minecraft for what it is and don't add too much. The highlight of this modpack is how elements from Minecraft's past are merged with the present. Alpha and Beta features and bugs co-existing alongside modern features.
What is there to expect? Let's go through some highlights.
- Hunger is now disabled by default, and eating now restores hearts like they did back in Alpha and Beta. Unlike the Alpha and Beta, however, eating still plays an animation that must be completed, adding some mild risk to eating in dangerous scenarios to get a quick heal. Though disabled by default, it can be re-enabled whenever desired through NostalgicTweaks' config screen, and is even favorited for convenience.
- Hunger may be disabled, but in its place is a Stamina system. You can sprint, but don't sprint for too long, or you'll face a penalty and will have to regain your Stamina. Even if you enable Hunger, the Stamina system will be in place. The Stamina system is also favorited for convenience in NT's config to allow disabling it, but you'll have to separately disable sprinting if you don't want sprinting at all. Also favorited for convenience!
- Sword Blocking is re-enabled, but it only blocks 50% of damage. The off-hand slot is also still fully functional, so consider Sword Blocking an alternative until you can craft a shield.
- Acquire a Clock to display the time and number of days since your world started on your HUD, and acquire a Compass to display your looking direction and your coordinates.
- Craft a Map Atlas to have a vanilla-styled minimap in the corner of the screen, but make sure you have plenty of Empty Maps to work with, because it eats through maps very quickly.
- Levels and Experience are enabled, yet they're now tracked via text overlay at the top left of the screen, keeping the classic look of the Hotbar. (Unless playing in the Modern Style, where it keeps the modern look.) Experience is immediately transferred to the closest player where applicable, as well.
- Press G (substituting F) to toggle the Fog and F6 (substituting F5) to toggle cosmetic client-side weather, just like in Minecraft's earliest Alphas and Classic builds. This is purely for fun, but it's a neat little thing.
- Craft or find Waystones for fast travel. You can only fast travel from one Waystone to another, but if you craft a Waystone and name it Home, you can fast travel to your Home Waystone immediately via button in your inventory!
- Modern Combat is in effect, but with classic arm animations from the Alpha/Beta builds, keeping a fun little mesh between modern and classic combat that I feel is quite nice.
- Craft Bundles to hold various items and Quivers to hold lots of arrows! They work very similarly, with Quivers able to be worn on your torso for easy arrow management.
- Smelt Oak Slabs in Furnaces to create Petrified Oak Slabs, the version of Oak Slabs based in the Stone Slab's code from early builds.
Mimic different versions of Minecraft...
Using NostalgicTweaks' Config, you can change the style of Minecraft to mimic four different versions. Minecraft Classic, Alpha, Beta, and Modern. These presets can be changed by pressing O to bring up NT's config, clicking Manage, then clicking Presets. Then just click and hold "Apply" on the preset you want. Version 2.x.x includes a zip file of these presets if you accidentally delete them or want to access them in other modpacks.
Note: The presets only change visuals. Gameplay is unchanged and consistent between all Styles.
You'll have to adjust your enabled Resource Packs as well...

Here's the intended load order for each style. "Alpha" also applies to Classic too, in this case. You technically can mix and match these all you want, but it'll look quite odd. When using the Modern Style, you only need the Vanilla, Fabric Mods, and Moonlight Lib packs.
Notes
- Genesis includes Moderner Beta as well, if you want more classic or unique world generation. If you're playing with a Moderner Beta preset that has a custom sky color, such as Pocket Edition or Infdev seeds, I'd recommend disabling "Old Universal Sky Color" and "Old Dynamic Sky Color" in the Eye Candy/World Candy/Sky Candy section of NostalgicTweaks' settings to retain the special sky colors. They're favorited for convenience, and remember, you can access NT's config with O!
- I'd recommend keeping the GUI Scale at 4x, as that's what the modpack was built around. Some UI elements may appear incorrect if played with a smaller GUI scale.
- The Classic Style has the Classic Lighting Engine enabled in NT's config, basically meaning that the way lighting worked in Minecraft Classic, where there's only two "light" and "dark" states, applies everywhere. If you wish to use the Classic Style with actual lighting, you can disable the Classic Lighting Engine tweak in NT's config. Once again, it's favorited for convenience!
- The Classic Style was also built with Fast Clouds in mind, as those were the only clouds back then. However, the presets and resource packs have no control over the cloud type, so that will have to be manually switched in Minecraft's video settings if you're aiming for accuracy.
- Clicking the Logo on the Title Screen will revert to the resource pack's logo, if you'd rather not have the dynamic Genesis logo!
- The "Mods" button has been disabled in the Pause Screen and Title Screen for all styles except Modern to maintain accuracy with the versions they're replicating, however the Mods menu can still be accessed with the ` key in-game, and one can easily quit the game by leaving fullscreen and clicking the X in the corner.
Creator Notes
Hey, it's me, the creator, Onemario, here. This is my first modpack ever released, and if you're wondering why the simple act of changing styles involves going into the config of another mod and manually changing your resource packs, it's simply because I'm no modder. I have no modding experience, and Genesis is just a glorified pack of mods with their configs adjusted to work with each other as best as I realistically can with my inexperience. Please don't let this turn you away from the modpack, I did put a lot of time and effort into it to make sure it's a good modpack, but just be aware, if it feels underwhelming, that's why.
Even despite all that, I hope you enjoy!

2.1.1Релиз1.20.1 · 29 октября 2025 г.
Very, very small update that fixes a couple things and adds one new mod.
- The config for Advanced Placements has been adjusted so the overtly long tooltips and startup message when joining a world/server are no longer present, however the mod is still in effect. Remember, you can place slabs and stairs vertically and can even place carpets and pressure plates on walls and ceilings!
- Added the “Vein Mining” mod that adds an enchantment specifically for mining ore veins. I like the idea of vein mining, but I didn’t want it to be available from the get-go. There are three levels of Vein Mining. Level 1 only mines 3 blocks in a vein, level 2 only mines 6 blocks in a vein, and level 3 mines 9 blocks in a vein. This stacks with the block you’re currently mining, meaning you break 4 blocks, 7 blocks, then 10 blocks with each level.
- All mods updated to the latest versions.
2.1.0Релиз1.20.1 · 29 октября 2025 г.
Hiii, it's been a while. New additions and some fixes, and the first release of the modpack under the Nostalgica Reverie organization! Check it out!
Additions
- Added the “Rubies Restored Vanilla” resource pack, just Rubies Restored built for vanilla instead of Golden Days.
- Re-added the “Programmer Art Continuation Project” resource pack, for the classic/modern look if desired. And as a result…
- Re-added the “Entity Model/Texture Features” mods to work in tandem with PACP.
- Added the “Additional Placements” mod to allow placing vertical slabs and stairs! I was originally unsure about adding this, but I think it’s a neat feature to have. It is, unfortunately, not compatible with full block outlines given by NostalgicTweaks, so vertical slabs and stairs will not have full block outlines, but this issue is so minor that I’m not even considering it a real issue. This also makes Stair tooltips freakishly long and ugly, but again, extremely minor… Also a message more or less saying the mod is enabled shows up every single time you load into a world which is annoying… Still a minor issue.
- Added the “Visual Workbench” mod, which allows placing and keeping items on your crafting table, alongside showing a visual. I thought this was neat.
NostalgicTweaks Changes
- The Sign has been removed and the Lectern has been added to the “Full Block Hitbox Outlines” list in all but the Modern styles. Basically, this means the Sign no longer has a full block outline while the Lectern now does.
Miscellaneous
- Updated the “Golden Days Alpha” resource pack to 1.13.1 (was 1.13.0). No idea what exactly this changes.
- All mods have been updated to their latest versions.
- Most likely fixed an issue with 2.0.0 where the intended Resource Packs were not included with the modpack.
2.0.0Релиз1.20.1 · 17 октября 2025 г.
Update 2.0.0
THIS will likely be the last update for the modpack, as it's quite a substantial update, and I need a break from it after this. In retrospect, there were many things about the modpack that I felt needed some adjustments here and there, so I unlisted the modpack's page for a while and redid the entire thing, rewriting the description, recording a new video, and gathering new screenshots. As far as the modpack itself goes, I've removed, added, and changed a LOT of mods. The modpack is in a good place now, having been practically overhauled, and I don't feel it needs any additional updates, outside of some bugfixes, if needed.
Removals
- Removed the Trinkets and Elytra Slot mods. Trinkets in particular was causing some conflict because of Map Atlas. The Atlas Trinket was right in the way of the Inventory changes made by NostalgicTweaks, and I decided I want those changes to take priority. Frankly, if I could disable or move the Map Atlas trinket, I wouldn’t have to do this, but alas, my hand was forced.
- Removed the Cloud Layers mod. It was neat for a while, but it just became a pain to work with, and I’d prefer letting NostalgicTweaks take control of the clouds. This also means you can now choose whether you want Fast or Fancy clouds. They both work for every style, so pick your favorite! Oh, Flat clouds are the most accurate for the Classic style though.
- Removed the Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features mods… because the modpack has no resource packs that make use of these mods.
- Removed the Programmer Art Continuation resource pack.
NostalgicTweaks Changes
- As a result of the Trinkets and Elytra Slot removal, the Old Inventory Screen tweak is re-enabled on all styles except Modern.
- Adjusted the Level, Experience, and Saturation (when Hunger is enabled) displays to no longer be exclusive to the inventory screen. They now appear on the HUD at all times.
- Level and Experience have special formatting, as well, appearing next to each other instead of above and below one another. Alongside this, the text even changes to match the style. In the Classic and Alpha Styles, they say “Level” and “Experience” respectively, mimicking how text UI would look back then. Meanwhile, in the Beta Style, “Experience” is changed to simply say “EXP” instead, giving the impression of the UI being slightly more refined and modernized.
- The in-game Version Text no longer displays what “Style” is currently selected. It was adding needless bloat to the UI.
- The Title Screen Version Text no longer says “[Version] Style.” Instead, it now displays the version of Minecraft being replicated by the Style. “c0.30” for the Classic Style, “a1.1.2_01” for the Alpha Style, “b1.7.3” for the Beta Style, and “1.20.1” in the Modern Style.
- The Hitbox Overlay/Outline at any block in your crosshair now changes to match the version, being a static flashing block in the Classic Style and the vanilla outline in all the other styles. You no longer have the mesh of both, as I no longer feel like it was necessary.
- Stamina has been entirely adjusted, to allow longer sprinting at the cost of a greater penalty if Stamina reaches 0. To be specific, you can now sprint for 10 seconds (was 5), face a 15 second penalty while exhausted (was 10), and exhausted regen halves to 30 seconds while moving (was 20).
- Accounting for the removal of Cloud Layers, the Alpha and Beta styles now have their clouds at their appropriate heights. This means Alpha clouds will be very very close to the ground.
- If Hunger is enabled in the Beta Style, the modern Hunger bar will now appear instead of a text display. The Beta Style is supposed to be a conglomerate of Beta 1.7.3 and Beta 1.8. So consider this one area that blurs the line only if enabled. Experience still uses the text display, however.
- The Mods and Quit buttons on the Pause and Title Screens are now removed in the Classic, Alpha, and Beta styles for accuracy. Preferably, you won't need to access the mod config as I feel it’s in a fine place right now, but if accessing the mod menu is a must, opening the mod menu is bound to the ` key. Remember, NostalgicTweaks config is bound to ‘O’ as well!
- The Classic Lighting Engine tweak is now favorited in the Classic Style to allow quick disabling if you want to play the Classic style but still want standard lighting.
Additions
- Added the CreativeCore and AmbientSounds mods. I realize ambient sounds are an acquired taste, so it can be disabled if desired, but I personally looove the vibes of the Alpha/Beta visuals with nice ambient sounds. The config has been adjusted so some ambient sounds are quieter than the default, and one ambient sound that especially bugged my tinnitus was muted entirely.
- Added the owo-lib, SushiBar (core), and Chai’s Inventory Sorting mods, because inventory sorting is a nice vanilla+ feature I should’ve added sooner!
- Added the Chain Armor Recipe mod that makes chainmail armor craftable, because Chainmail is cool, and feels like a good enough feature to make into a craftable armor piece for this modpack.
- Added the Cut Through mod, so no longer will you have to break grass to attack with a sword!
- Added the Diagonal Fence, Windows, and Walls mods, alongside their required PuzzleLib core, so that can happen now. Mostly for convenience!
- Added the CraftPresence mod and its associated Core! This mod enables Discord Rich Presence with Genesis.
- Added the Bundles Crafting Backport mod, simply adding a crafting recipe for the Bundle into the game, so now it’s actually usable in Survival!
- Added the Simple Quiver mod, that adds a quiver that functions like a Bundle, able to hold 256 arrows! It goes on your chestplate slot. The removal of Trinkets sadly removes its potential dedicated slot. Hey, blame Map Atlas, it doesn’t let you disable the Trinkets support. Anyway, the Quiver was a feature from the Alpha days that never got added, so I figured, why not?
- Added the Paxi mod, that enables making Datapacks force load into all new and previously created worlds. As a result of this…
- Added the “More Recipes: Petrified Oak Slabs” Datapack by Selah. This makes Petrified Oak Slabs, the legacy Wooden Slabs that behaved like Stone Slabs, into a craftable item. As for how you craft it, you simply smelt an Oak Slab in a furnace to create a Petrified Oak Slab!
- Added the Stack Size Edit mod (and stacc-api). This mod increases the item stack limit to 99, referencing early Indev and Classic builds! However, I’m well aware this is an acquired taste, so the mod’s config is disabled by default. I think it’s cool, so I’ll probably be playing with it, but if you don’t want to, you don’t have to. If you do want to, enable it via the config. (Will require a restart!)
- The admittedly quite interesting side effect of this is that, even while it’s disabled, Bundles can hold 99 items in total instead of 64.
- Added the Gravestones mod (and its core) by Pneumono_. This adds gravestones that’ll be at your last place of death and will contain your items. That doesn’t mean all your items are safe, though! Over the course of an hour, your EXP contained within the gravestone will decay overtime. And once an hour passes, all your items will drop and obey the default five minute despawn timer. Better be quick!
Miscellaneous
- With the top of the inventory now freed up, status effects will now appear at the top of the inventory to account for EMI. EMI in general saw some extremely minor adjustments as well. The rightmost Index’s “lookup history” page was replaced with an “Empty” page, meant simply for freeing up screen space if you want the Craftables UI but not the Index.
- Dynamic Lighting is now enabled by default. I feel like Dynamic Lighting isn’t too intrusive, but you can always disable it with the config if you don’t want it. The config can be easily accessed from the Video Settings. (Dynamic Lighting doesn’t work in the Classic Style as long as the Classic Lighting Engine tweak is enabled.)
- Waystones now always spawn in villages if possible. Remember, when crafting a Waystone for your base, naming it “Home” will allow you to fast travel back to your base by simply clicking the Scroll button in your inventory!
- Added the No More Horizontal Logs resource pack, for players who want the classic feel of logs not being able to be placed horizontally. It’s entirely optional.
- The GoldenDays Alpha/Base resource packs were updated, meaning cool new stuff! Too much to list here, but to give an example, door sounds will now be randomized again, playing either the opening or closing sound at random when toggling it, like in the old days!
- All included mods were updated to their latest versions.
- As described earlier, the Modrinth page has been completely overhauled and redone, better describing the modpack and what’s in it, as well as giving useful tips that I wish I could provide in-game.
- Included alongside this update is a zip file containing all the 2.0.0 NostalgicTweaks presets for each Style. If you accidentally delete one, or you wish to use the styles in your own NT-focused modpack, go ahead.
Known Issues
- Sadly can’t really get a fix for this one; The Waystones interface has an Inventory Sort button just kinda floating in the middle of the UI. I don’t know why it’s there but I can’t seem to get rid of it.
- Also outside of my control, and even outside of PoeticRainbow’s control, Leather Armor can’t be properly dyed while GoldenDays is enabled. Especially here, I’m not sure there’s anything I can do about that. If you care so much about dying leather armor, you’ll have to disable GoldenDays.
- When Dynamic Lighting is enabled, holding a torch in the Beta Style will somewhat bug out the smooth lighting surrounding chests. It’s very minor and will vanish as soon as the torch is put away.
- (Retroactively adding this one after the release of 2.1) None of the intended Resource Packs are included in this release. This is fixed in 2.1.0.
1.1.2Релиз1.20.1 · 9 октября 2025 г.
This will likely be the last update for the modpack for a while. I feel like it's in a pretty good state right now, and doesn't need much more, or much less.
- Added the LamDynamicLights mod, though it is disabled by default. If you want dynamic lighting, it can be enabled through the config.
- Removed the Dimensional Doors mod. After playing some Reminiscence (great modpack btw), I realized my modpack isn’t really trying to be a modpack like that. Genesis is supposed to be Vanilla+, and DimDoors isn’t very Vanilla+, so I’ve made the decision to remove it altogether.
- Removed From The Fog for being too intrusive.
- Updated a few mods to the latest available versions.
- Changed the "Old Screen Background" tweak in the Classic Style to use the gradient blue used in Minecraft Classic.
1.1.1Релиз1.20.1 · 2 октября 2025 г.
- Changed some NostalgicTweaks settings.
- Changed the "Old Blue Void" tweak to the Beta setting while playing in the Beta Style.
- Disabled the "Old Inventory Screen" tweak in all styles to fix a slight incompatibility issue with MapAtlases/Trinkets and NostalgicTweaks. Sorry!
- Updated Moderner Beta to 3.2.0
- Updated Sound Physics Remastered to 1.5.1 (this fixes the audio issues from 1.1.0!)
- Added the Moonlight Lib and MapAtlas mods to give access to a minimap that's as vanilla friendly as possible.
1.1.0Релиз1.20.1 · 25 сентября 2025 г.
The first update for the modpack that isn't just a hotfix!
- Added the “Deselect” mod, allowing you to deselect your Hotbar to have an empty hand without messing up any hotbar slots. Defaulted to Z.
- Added the “Key Overlay” mod, displaying the keys bound to each Hotbar slot, on the Hotbar. If using default Hotbar keys, this means your number keys. Added the “Trinkets” and “Elytra Slot” mods to allow putting on an Elytra and Chestplate at the same time. Convenience!
- Updated the “Sound Physics Remastered” mod to 1.5.0.
- Added a modern port of a classic 1.12 mod, Dimensional Doors! This is to capture the nostalgic feeling of the modpack, but if you don’t wish to play with this mod, you’re free to disable/remove it.
- Added the “Hide Experimental Warnings” mod, because that warning is stupid when you’re playing a modded build anyway.
- Added the “Traveller’s Titles” mod, to show the name of a biome and dimension as you enter it. It even supports Moderner Beta’s classic biomes!
- Adjusted the EMI config to allow clicking on the Crafting and Index icons to swap to Crafting History and Lookup History, respectively.
- Adjusted a few NostalgicTweaks settings.
- The “Disable Bed Bounce” Gameplay tweak has been disabled, re-enabling the modern behavior of beds preventing fall damage and bouncing players.
- The “Instant Bone Meal” Gameplay tweak has been disabled, meaning most crops will require multiple bone meal to grow depending on its current state.
- The “Instant Air Refill” Gameplay tweak has been disabled, to make swimming in deep waters slightly more punishing as in modern.
- These changes were made in an effort to blur the line between Alpha/Beta and Modern.
- Fixed the “Old World Fog” and “Old Universal Fog Color” Fog Candy tweaks to actually represent Minecraft Classic while playing in the Classic Style.
- The “Weather Type” World Candy tweak is now set to always render Rain regardless of biome in the Classic Style, since Minecraft Classic had no snow.
- The “Prevent Weather Influence” World Candy tweak is now enabled in the Classic Style, to mimic how rain functioned in Minecraft Classic.
- These changes were made in an effort to give the Classic Style more resemblance to Minecraft Classic.
- The “Old Game Loading Overlay” Interface Candy screen has been adjusted to display the correct Beta loading screen while playing the Beta Style.
- In the Modern Style, the player’s Saturation is now visible in the inventory screen if Hunger is enabled, same as the other Styles.
- The Version Text in the top-left corner of the in-game UI, the title screen, and the overall Window text, now only display the version of Genesis being played, not the version of Minecraft, as this info is largely irrelevant to the modpack.
Known Issues
- Some sounds that should be playing far away from the player are instead playing as though they’re right next to the player (such as mob sounds like a cow mooing). This is a problem with the latest release of Sound Physics Remastered, and should be fixed with their next patch.
1.0.1Релиз1.20.1 · 20 сентября 2025 г.
The page literally just became public and I’m already releasing a 1.0.1 version. Classy.
A small update that added some minor last minute visual changes. Not mandatory to install if you’ve already installed 1.0.0.
- The Game Version text overlay at the top-left of the screen now shows what Style you’re using, much like the Title Screen overlay.
- The Stamina Bar now changes to match the selected Style.
- In the Classic Style and Alpha Style, Stamina is now displayed as a text overlay in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- In the Beta Style, it retains its current behavior; a Stamina Bar above the Hotbar that only becomes visible when Stamina is below the max.
- In the Modern Style, the Stamina Bar behaves the same way as the Beta Style, but it is instead always visible and never disappears.
- Fixed “Old Item Holding” Item Candy setting not being disabled in the Modern Style.
- Fixed “Old Armor Damage Tint” Item Candy setting not being disabled in the Modern Style.
- Fixed “Old Color” Water Candy setting not being disabled in the Modern Style.
- Fixed “Old 2D Item Color” Item Candy setting not being enabled in all styles except Modern.
