I attempt to keep a modpack to one page of a list that focuses on client side optimization mods.

While I was actually working on the modpack "Fabric Bare Performance", I basically realized that probably partially due to an increase of optimization mods in later versions, they can get progressively unstable and may not even contribute to FPS increase as much as they may imply.

This being the case, I'll start down from 1.14.2 and go back up for parity's sake and slowly experiment what works best with what I have that's available. Maybe I already did it, and this part of the description is an afterthought, but regardless that is basically the method I will go about in making this modpack for this instance: to make it at a constant amount and a challenge to keep the modpack "lighter" than the original iteration of what I worked on.

The standard I'll do for testing pretty much is keep everything at standard settings as minecraft would launch from, with the exception of Unlimited FPS in case the frames exceed those speeds (although let's be honest, my laptop would barely like to reach those high frame rates anyway pffffft). Other things I'm keeping constant is same world seed, and staying still with the world already loaded since FPS will naturally fluctuate depending on where you are and what you're doing.

Also since I'll be focusing on FPS instead of QoL performance stuffs individually, I'll put down my Vanilla FPS vs Modded FPS for comparison given how everyone has different systems. And since it'll be among different versions, I'll just do an average per main version (like 1.18, 1.17, 1.16, etc.) on the description page, and for per changelog I'll put down the specific average FPS comparison.

Addendum: It's come to my attention as I was dabbling in 1.17 that there are mods out there that won't optimize FPS, but will most certainly prevent more lag should a specific scenario come along like a lot of chests or a lot of redstone. Mods that selectively tackle these issues that aren't always ever present has led me to decide to make "Honorable Mention" versions of modpacks-they are technally 20 mods focused on performance, but with added mods that tackle particular situations. In some ways it could even argue that this is the better modpack to download, but to each their own I've decided to commit to this challenge regardless as this is a modpack aimed at overall performance.

1.14. Current Verdict: Most of the optimization mods that exist here do not act to improve FPS, but actally to stabilize and fix issues-either go Vanilla or use Optifine if you want more ideal FPS increases. Biggest exception right now is 1.14.4 where it's basically break even between frame rates.

  • Vanilla: 110~ FPS
  • Modpack: 100~ FPS

1.15. Current Verdict: The mods in use technically speaking don't reach the same peaks as true vanilla, however they they do mostly appear more stable and consistent which I'd say is nice.

  • Vanilla: 100~ FPS
  • Modpack: 100~ FPS

1.16. Current Verdict: There's enough mods here and their associated effects to warrant using them for sure. With it also being 1.16 there's naturally more things to generate and load so vanilla performance goes down a bit.

  • Vanilla: 95~ FPS
  • Modpack: 105~ FPS

1.17. Current Verdict: WIP

  • Vanilla: WIP
  • Modpack: WIP

1.18. Current Verdict: WIP

  • Vanilla: WIP
  • Modpack: WIP

1.!9. Current Verdict: WIP

  • Vanilla: WIP
  • Modpack: WIP

1.20. Current Verdict: WIP

  • Vanilla: WIP
  • Modpack: WIP

1.21. Current Verdict: WIP

  • Vanilla: WIP
  • Modpack: WIP

Oh and as always feel free to leave a comment or message me if something goes wrong.

Bit late saying this, but happy new years and valentine’s! Took a 2 month+ break to deal with some things on the side. Apart from that, this version is… definitely a step back from before. In a way, it does make sense since mods in the first version usually don’t try to maintain it here, as latest versions of a main version is preferred. This has led to the surprising removal of things like Sodium and Modern Fix. Due to this, we’re back to 16 mods, and more variable FPS rates. At least Starlight’s available!

Here’s what we got for reference:

  • Alternate Current
  • Better Beds
  • Client Side Noteblocks
  • Dynamic FPS
  • Entity Culling
  • Fast Chest
  • FerriteCore
  • Krypton
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • lazy-language-loader*
  • Lithium
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fixer
  • Starlight*

This was where I left off actually before going dark for almost a year… In any case, this’ll probably be the beginning of me leveraging between optimization mods and lag prevention mods; I’ll even have to see if some of them together even matter later. But that is for future me to deal with! In this case, list ain't too different, and I basically traded off Advancements Debug for FerriteCore. Stablizes the FPS a bit here.

So, the list ain’t too different thankfully:

  • Alternate Current
  • Better Beds
  • Chunkumulator
  • Client Side Noteblocks
  • Cull Leaves
  • Dynamic FPS
  • Entity Culling
  • Fast IP Ping
  • Fast Chest
  • FerriteCore*
  • Krypton
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Lithium
  • Memory Leak Fix
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fixer
  • Modern Fix
  • Optimizer
  • Sodium

Hot damn! We actually reached 22 mods total! Also yes, I count the fabric API a mod since I basically said enough mods to fill a page but nothing more, and that is exactly 20 mods for me. Thus, I removed Log Cleaner as it really did nothing but be convenient for some upkeep down the line. Otherwise, Modern Fix, another major FPS mod has also arrived! Oh, and Chunkumulator apparently suddenly doesn’t exist in this version.

I also think that’s the only thing new here… oh wait right Fast IP Ping, Phosphor and Krypton finally doesn’t crash the world:

  • Advancements Debug
  • Alternate Current
  • Better Beds
  • Chunkumulator
  • Client Side Noteblocks
  • Cull Leaves
  • Dynamic FPS
  • Entity Culling
  • Fast IP Ping
  • Fast Chest
  • Krypton*
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Lithium
  • Memory Leak Fix
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fixer
  • Modern Fix*
  • Optimizer
  • Phosphor*
  • Sodium

CALM DOWN EVERYONE CALM DOWN! IT’S HAPPENING IT’S HAPPENING! SODIUM IS HERE! And hoo boy I missed having this bread and butter mod for fabric here. Also to my surprise, the mods from the past version are fine, and I was actually able to slap on Memory Leak Fix-I think each time I tested it in each version it led to minecraft crashing for some unknown reason; about time you son of a mod. Other than that Krypton still appears unstable (causing worlds unable to load and crashing minecraft).

And here’s what we got:

  • Advancements Debug
  • Alternate Current
  • Better Beds
  • Chunkumulator
  • Client Side Noteblocks
  • Cull Leaves
  • Dynamic FPS
  • Entity Culling
  • Fast Chest
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Lithium
  • Log Cleaner
  • Memory Leak Fix
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fixer
  • Optimizer
  • Sodium

On God, this surprised the ever living hell out of me. I was expecting a majority of the new mods to mostly work on 1.16.5 since most usually would prioritize the latest version of a set numbered version. Here however, only ONE mod decided not to work and it’s a new one: Krypton. While I’m saying this, returning mods and new mods are here and are surprisingly compatible, and the FPS shows!

Take a looksee:

  • Advancements Debug
  • Alternate Current
  • Better Beds*
  • Chunkumulator
  • Client Side Noteblocks*
  • Cull Leaves*
  • Dynamic FPS
  • Entity Culling
  • Fast Chest
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Lithium*
  • Log Cleaner
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fixer
  • Optimizer

Pretty similar to last version, however!-We actually have some additions that aren’t incompatible this time! The improvements do show somewhat too because of this (although I did notice something rather odd with the modpack, where it stays in the range I describe, but may suddenly dip in a second, hence why I also added 70 in asterisks there).

So the mods are as follows:

  • Advancements Debug
  • Chunkumulator*
  • Entity Culling*
  • FastChest
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Log Cleaner
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fix
  • Optimizer

So… we are slowly getting to the point of the modpack itself! Downside being as usual mods earlier on in a set number version tends to not be compatible for some reason. There are still some minor improvements, but it is a bummer that some of the optimization mods just aren’t working together. So yes, Dynamic FPS, IP Ping, and… ALTERNATE CURRENT? Well, that’s surprising… for some reason having it on makes it just refuse to even load minecraft.

To be honest, it feels like we went backwards again:

  • Advancements Debug
  • FastChest
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Log Cleaner
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fix
  • Optimizer

Vanilla: 90-105 Modpack: 90-110

Well well well, guess who’s back? Dynamic FPS! Although that being said I like it being here since it has a higher frequency of stabilizing the FPS numbers, and it does show!

So yes, the mod list is about the same except the mod return:

  • Advancements Debug
  • Alternate Current
  • Dynamic FPS
  • FastChest
  • Ksyxis
  • LazyDFU
  • Log Cleaner
  • Mipmaplevel and Language Fix
  • Optimizer

Vanilla: 90-115 Modpack: 100-110
