WynnIris

This is NOT official Iris. WynnIris is an independent fork published with permission from the Iris developers. Please do not report WynnIris bugs to the Iris team. They are not responsible for this mod.

WynnIris is a fork of Iris Shaders that adds native support for Wynncraft's visual effects. WynnIris detects Wynncraft's signals and renders effects directly in the shader pipeline, meaning they work seamlessly with any shader pack.

NOTE: WynnIris is a drop-in replacement for normal Iris. WynnIris will not work if you have normal Iris installed at the same time.

Features

Important

This is a fork, not official Iris. It is published with the explicit permission of the Iris development team, but they are not involved in its development or maintenance.

If you are not playing on Wynncraft, you should use official Iris instead. WynnIris provides no benefit outside of Wynncraft.

Bug Fixes

  • Armor hidden by Wynncraft's hide armor cosmetic now stays hidden while riding mounts.

Armor While Riding Mounts

An idea I had that turned out to be possible!

This is exactly what it sounds like:

  • Your armor stays visible while riding a mount with shaders enabled
  • Custom helmet cosmetics render correctly
  • Glints and tints work as well

IMPORTANT: This setting is disabled by default. You'll need to enable it in the WynnIris settings.

Other Features & Fixes

  • Fixed handheld light-source emissivity on Complementary
  • The entity emissivity slider now works properly
  • The entity emissivity slider no longer incorrectly changes your handheld item's emissivity
  • Added a brightness slider for non-emissive mobs, for when you're in a dark skybox
  • Added a configurable brightness floor for text display entities, so they stay legible in the dark
  • Added Photon support for VFX translucency. Toggle it with /toggle vfx <low/medium/high/dynamic/unlimited>

Known Issues

  • Going AFK while riding a mount turns you into a boat with some weird fragments around you. The boat is default Wynncraft behavior that I can't do anything about, so this won't be fixed. Just dismount and remount and your character goes back to normal.
  • VFX translucency on Photon can turn slightly opaque in the dark. This is a limitation of Photon, not something I can reasonably fix.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed cutout skybox rendering on Photon. Affects the Apotheosis cracked rift and a few other areas.

Known Issues

  • On Photon, cumulus clouds clip against the custom skybox boundary, leaving visible hard edges on blocks and entities. Disabling cumulus clouds while in skybox areas avoids this.

Mist Woods Fog improvements

  • New Sodium video setting toggle to turn Mist Woods Fog on/off
  • New density slider to dial the fog strength
  • New minimum-distance slider to push the fog out farther if you want more visibility
  • New sun-tint reduction toggle + strength slider for people who don't want the warm orange bias during daytime
  • Reorganized WynnIris settings so all of this is grouped cleanly
  • Fixed biome fog piercing through glass and other translucents

Shader pack compatibility fixes

  • Photon + Scene Darkening: fixed green tint on NPC skin caused by HDR albedo overflow into Photon's packed GBuffer. Every in-shader albedo boost now clamps so no channel exceeds 1.0.
  • Voxy + Photon/Solas: fixed Voxy LOD water bleeding through entities by clearing aux translucent targets at pixels where vanilla opaque geometry occludes the LOD water.
  • DH + Skybox overlay: the custom Wynncraft skybox no longer eats translucent VFX drawn in front of DH LOD terrain.
  • VFX translucency on shader packs: VFX translucency now renders correctly on all shader packs (was previously broken on some).
  • VFX translucency formula: adjusted to match Wynncraft RP 1:1 for visual consistency.

Known issue

  • On Photon specifically, the Apotheosis cracked-rift surface still punches through to vanilla sky. Every other pack renders it correctly.

New Features

Mist Woods Biome Fog

  • The Mist Woods fog in Fruma now works with shader packs, matching the vanilla experience
  • Smooth transitions when entering and leaving the area
  • Fog covers both terrain and sky
  • Nighttime fog stays atmospheric instead of turning pitch black
  • Only active in the Mist Woods, will not affect render distance or any LOD mods elsewhere

Transition Screen Effects

  • All 19 Wynncraft screen transition effects now work with shader packs

Emissive Items

  • Wynncraft emissive items now glow properly with shader packs
  • "Entity Emissivity" slider added to Sodium settings

Shadeless Textures

  • Wynncraft flat-lit textures now render without directional shading, matching vanilla

Improvements

Skybox

  • Rewrote skybox rendering to fix back-face culling holes and flickering
  • Added Distant Horizons compatibility
  • Added "Night Vision Disables Boost" toggle in Sodium settings
  • Improved detection stability with longer hold time before fade-out

Shiny Glint

  • Reworked shiny glint into a cleaner directional sweep effect
  • Fixed false glint triggers on some VFX display entities

Known Issues

  • Not all features work correctly with every shader pack. Some packs like Photon may have visual bugs.
  • Complementary is the primary shader pack used for testing and is the only pack where things are reasonably guaranteed to look right.
  • Individual shader pack compatibility is a long term goal. If you run into issues with a specific pack, feel free to report them!

New Features

  • Wynncraft Custom Skyboxes: Full support for Wynncraft's custom sky effects (Memory Mist, Memory Fog, Stormy, War Surface, War Heights, Light, Red Lightning). The mod detects skybox display entities automatically and renders procedural sky effects that work with any shader pack.
  • Scene Darkening: When a custom skybox is active, the scene is darkened and tinted to match the skybox mood. Configurable via the Scene Darkening slider (0-100%) in Iris video settings.
  • Skybox Opacity slider: Control how visible the custom skybox overlay is (0-100%) in Iris video settings.
  • Fog color override: Fog blends toward the skybox mood color, so shader pack fog and water reflections match the custom sky.
  • Sky ambient lighting override: Shader pack deferred lighting now uses the skybox mood color for ambient calculations, so block edges and glass reflections match the custom sky instead of showing bright vanilla sky bleed.
  • Entity and text brightness boost: Entities and text displays are automatically brightened when a dark skybox is active, scaled by time of day so they remain visible.
  • Temporal smoothing: Skybox persists for 10 seconds after the display entity leaves view, then fades over 3 seconds for smooth transitions.

Technical

  • CPU-only skybox detection (reads item display entity textures on the CPU). Works on all platforms including macOS.
  • Post-process skybox rendering after shader pack compositing, so it works with both forward and deferred shader packs.

Known Issues

  • Shiny glint effect is not yet implemented. It will be added in the next release.

WynnIris 1.0.4

New Features

  • Deferred shader pack support: Glint and translucency effects now work with deferred rendering shader packs like Photon. Uses mid-main injection to modify the albedo variable before GBuffer packing.
  • Separate Tint & Glint Brightness sliders: Two independent sliders in Iris video settings let you adjust the brightness of armor/weapon tints and glint effects separately to your personal preference.
  • Improved tint rendering: Tints now preserve bright highlights via smoothstep blending, support unclamped lighting for brighter colors, and inject light color for more natural-looking tinted items.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed partial transparency on ALL display entities: Previously, all display entities showed ~5% translucency bleed-through against the sky. The deferral system is now per-mesh and signal-gated - only Wynncraft VFX entities with the translucency signal are deferred past sky compositing. Normal display entities flush immediately.
  • Fixed shader compilation errors: Resolved assignment to read-only variable 'tint' and invalid swizzle .a errors with Photon and other deferred packs by rejecting read-only input varyings and vec3 outputs from the fragment output scan.
  • Translucency multiplier tuned: Adjusted to 0.013 (130%) for better visual match with vanilla Wynncraft, with a 5% minimum visibility floor to prevent VFX from becoming fully invisible.

Photon Shader Pack

  • Glint effects (sparkle, sweep, tints, etc.) now work on Photon
  • VFX translucency works on Photon when "Use Separate Entity Draws" is enabled in Photon's shader settings
  • Armor rendering order fix for Photon (routes armor through translucent path when "Use Separate Entity Draws" is enabled)

Known Issues

  • VFX may be invisible on low settings: On some shader packs, /toggle vfx low can cause VFX display entities to become invisible instead of partially transparent (#2)
  • Photon: Display entities render in front of held items: A rendering order issue specific to Photon (#3)
  • Photon: Armor may render behind player in 3rd person: When "Use Separate Entity Draws" is enabled, armor rendering order may be incorrect in 3rd person view - unconfirmed (#4)

  • Add Wynncraft player emote support. Emotes (wave, sing, snow angels, etc.) now render properly with shaders enabled instead of going invisible/glitchy
  • Port the full applyPlayer() system from the Wynncraft resource pack into the entity shader pipeline (Y-position metadata decode, per-limb UV remapping, distance-based nearFade)
  • Fix face divide UV threshold to match RP behavior
