FSR Upscaler for Minecraft

Get more FPS without making Minecraft look like a blurry mess. FSR Upscaler for Minecraft brings AMD's FSR technology to Minecraft, allowing the game to render at a lower resolution and then upscale the image to your display resolution.

Supported FSR Versions

  • FSR 1
  • FSR 2
  • FSR 3
  • FSR 3 Frame Generation
  • FSR 4 (Windows only)

Why Use This Mod?

Normally, getting more FPS means lowering Minecraft's resolution. While that can help performance, it also makes the game look noticeably worse.

This mod takes a different approach. Minecraft renders internally at a lower resolution, then FSR reconstructs the image at a higher resolution. Temporal upscaling uses information from previous frames to help preserve detail and reduce jagged edges.

Sharper Graphics

FSR includes RCAS sharpening, which helps keep things like blocks, leaves, items, and other fine details looking sharp instead of blurry.

Better Performance

Rendering fewer pixels means your GPU has less work to do. This can result in a significant FPS increase, especially when playing at higher resolutions such as 1440p or 4K.

Great for High Render Distances

The mod can be especially useful alongside LOD mods such as Voxy. You can keep large view distances while using upscaling to reduce the amount of work your GPU has to do.

Lightweight

The goal of this mod is to keep the implementation as lightweight as possible and work directly with Minecraft's rendering system without requiring a large collection of additional dependencies.

Installation

Installing the mod is pretty straightforward:

  1. Download the .jar file for your Minecraft version.
  2. Open your Minecraft mods folder. On Windows, you can press Windows + R and enter %appdata%\.minecraft\mods.
  3. If you're using Prism Launcher, Modrinth App, CurseForge, or another launcher, open the mods folder for your Minecraft instance instead.
  4. Drop the downloaded .jar file into the folder.
  5. Launch Minecraft with Fabric and the mod installed.

Controls & Settings

The mod can be controlled directly in-game:

  • F8 — Enable/disable the mod
  • F9 — Change video quality
  • F10 — Switch between FSR versions
  • K / J — Increase/decrease sharpness
  • F7 — Open the settings menu

Shader Requirements

Most shaders work with FSR Reloaded however, it is experimental and expect visual bugs and preformence issues. Frame gen is currently not fully supported

You can also fine-tune settings such as sharpness and resolution scaling through the mod's configuration.

Hardware Requirements

The mod uses modern OpenGL features, so your GPU needs to support OpenGL 4.3 or newer.

Generally, this means:

  • NVIDIA: GeForce GTX 700 series or newer
  • AMD: Radeon HD 7000 series or newer
  • Intel: Haswell-generation Intel graphics or newer
  • OpenGL: Version 4.3 or newer

Dedicated GPUs will generally get the most benefit, but supported integrated graphics can also run the mod.

FSR 4 has additional requirements and currently requires Windows with DirectX 12 and Vulkan support.

Shader Compatibility

This mod is currently not compatible with traditional OptiFine/Iris shader packs such as Complementary, BSL, or SEUS.

The reason is that both systems need to interact with Minecraft's rendering pipeline. Shader packs replace or modify parts of the rendering process for things like lighting, shadows, reflections, and other effects, while this mod needs control over the rendering pipeline to perform its upscaling.

Running both at the same time can result in visual glitches, a broken image, or crashes.

If your priority is cinematic lighting and visual effects, use a shader pack.

If your priority is higher FPS, lower GPU usage, and better anti-aliasing while keeping the vanilla look, use this mod.

How It Works

FSR isn't simply stretching a smaller image until it fills your screen.

For the temporal versions of FSR, Minecraft renders each frame with slightly different sub-pixel information. The upscaler can then use information from previous frames along with the current frame to reconstruct details that weren't fully available in a single low-resolution frame.

The result is a higher-resolution image that can look considerably better than simply lowering the resolution and scaling it back up.
