The more your copper tools and armor wear down, the more they oxidize. As durability decreases, your gear visually progresses through different stages of oxidation until it looks fully aged.

All tools, weapons and armor pieces oxidize when their durability is low, but armor pieces do not oxidize while they are being worn.
