The idea

Every Minecraft server eventually develops a meta. Players figure out that bows are safe. That height is an advantage. That shielding and burst damage make most encounters trivial. Once that happens, survival combat starts feeling like a routine chore instead of a real threat.

VortexMobs was built to break that loop.

It runs silently in the background, watching how fights actually end on your server. Over time it builds a server-specific combat profile and starts shaping mob behavior to push back against whatever your players rely on most. The result is a server where hostile mobs feel genuinely dangerous again — not because their numbers are bigger, but because they start responding to the way you play.


What it actually does

When players consistently win at range → mobs close gaps faster and more aggressively

When players exploit height → encounters become more punishing for terrain abuse

When focus-fire melts fights instantly → mobs build sustained pressure instead

When shielding is overused → the AI starts targeting that defensive habit

None of this happens overnight. The brain builds over real encounters. The longer your server runs, the more precisely the AI reflects your community's playstyle back at it.

🔧 VortexMobs 1.1.1 — Hotfix

Affected versions: Anyone running Paper build 64 or newer.

🐛 Fix — Startup crash on Paper build 64+

The plugin crashed immediately on servers running Paper 26.1.2.build.64+. The root cause was ENTITY_WOLF_HOWL being removed from Paper's Sound enum between builds. Because event sounds were stored as direct enum constants, the entire invasion event class failed to initialize at startup, taking the plugin down with it.

What changed: Event sounds are now stored as name strings and resolved at runtime with a graceful fallback. Any future sound rename in any Paper build will no longer crash the plugin.

👹 Elite Mob Affixes

Six named elite variants can now spawn on any hostile mob, each with unique stat multipliers, a colored name prefix, and a reward multiplier that makes killing them worth it.

Configure base spawn chance and per-event chance boosts in config.yml. All off by default.


🌙 Invasion Event Audiovisual Identity

Every invasion event now ships with a full A/V package:

  • 🎆 Unique particle effect on event start
  • 🔊 Start sound, end sound, and ambient mob aura particles
  • 📢 Server-wide headline broadcast on start and end

All six events remain disabled by default — opt in individually.


📖 Paginated Drop Catalog

The admin /vortexmobs drop editor GUI now supports:

  • Category filters — Tracked mobs / All Hostile / Elite Variants
  • Page navigation — forward and back buttons, no more one endless list
  • Elite drop inheritance — variant tables fall back to the base mob type automatically

🐛 Fixes

  • Right-clicking a biome in the drop editor now correctly resets its multiplier to 1.00
  • Elite drop fallback chain is correctly resolved at drop time
