Description

In this mod, you can craft XP Books in order to store your experience and save it from a coming death. After storing it, you can retrieve your experience back in two different ways: same way that you stored it OR you can brew the experience of the XP Book with the brewing stand in order to create special Experience Bottles that can give you even more experience.

⚠️ v1.6 UPDATE: XP Book II and III were removed, and there were some changes with item data! You can update the mod in your world without losing anything, but be sure to put your books in a crafting table to update them. Old saves won't be supported forever, this warning will be update whenever a version without the transition support is uploaded.

Recipes

Crystallized Lapis

  • 4 Lapis Lazuli (it stores experience so that makes senses)
  • 1 Amethyst Shard (it's a precious gem)

XP Book

  • They can store up to 15 levels without upgrades (config).
    This means experience to go from 0 level to X levels! Not the same amount than experience from Y to X+Y!
  • 1 Book (of course, it's a book)
  • 4 Crystallized Lapis

  • They can be used to upgrade XP Books of any level, only the ingredient with it changes

How to use?

XP Book

  • Store experience: Store the maximum amount of your experience in the book by right clicking. If you have more experience than the maximum amount, you will keep the remaining experience

  • Retrieve experience: Get 85, 90, 95 or 100% (depending on book's level) of the experience stored in the book by right clicking while sneaking

Brewing

  • Take 1, 3, 5 or 10 levels (depending on book's level) of the experience stored in the book for each mundane potions (or Experience Bottle) placed in the brewing stand and put it in the resulting Experience Bottle (or add it to the current ones)
  • Each Experience Bottle can store a maximum of 30 levels (config)

XP Book Upgrades

  • You can upgrade the book, so that it can store more experience and retrieve it more efficiently
  • You need to craft an XP Book Upgrade Smithing Template and use it with the right ingredient, depending on the XP Book level in input (Diamond, Netherite Ingot or Nether Star).
  • You can update the new smithing recipes to customize the parameters of the XP Book in output, such as its new capacity or efficiency for example with your custom resource pack
  • You can also add new smithing recipes in your custom resource pack to add more XP Book levels

  • Deprecate XP Book II and XP Book III in favor of the main XP Book
    • You can't craft them or use them anymore
    • No data is lost though, you can convert them to XP Book in the crafting table
    • They will be entirely removed in a future update, this version brings a transition phase
    • A tooltip is shown when needed to let player know the book should be updated
    • The XP Book I becomes a XP Book but can also need an update if it has too much xp stored in it (again, no xp should be lost in the process)
  • XP Book I is renamed XP Book as it will be the only item remaining
  • XP Book texture is changed, the "level indicator" is removed as there is only one item
  • Book data (capacity, xp from use, xp from brewing and bar color) uses item data component
  • Book data also includes the book level, which represents the number of upgrades it got. This is the replacement for XP Book I, XP Book II, XP Book III
  • XP Book recipe is changed and removes the precious ingredient (diamond), as it has less default capacity than before
  • XP Book Upgrade Smithing Template can be crafted to upgrade the book data
    • There are three possible upgrades included in the mod, corresponding to previous XP Book I, XP Book II, XP Book III data
    • Upgrades recipes can be updated by players in datapack in order to update book data of upgrades. If books are upgraded before updating the recipes, the upgraded books will keep their old custom data
    • New recipes can be added for more XP Book upgrades
    • The smithing ingredient, template, and every new book data can be configured in it
    • The XP Book Upgrade Smithing Template can be duplicated with a less expensive recipe
  • XP Book has UNCOMMON rarity level
  • XP Book tooltip is enhanced to show the book level
  • XP Book and XP Bottles tooltip are updated to display a more vanillla-ish tooltip
    • You can configure if you want them to show xp levels, xp points, or both
    • XP Bottles without xp data don't show custom tooltip anymore

  • Fix XP duplication glitch when brewing potion
    • The duplication appears if potions are quick moved into the brewing stand, they stack while they shouldn't, and XP is duplicated
    • The issue is within minecraft and the fix is not trivial when modding, so the workaround was to ignore slots with more than one potion
