Soft Foliage

Leaves should be soft, lilypads shouldn't block swimming, and bamboo should be climbable. A super configurable vanilla-like mod that softens foliage!!! <3 <3 <3 Also slowdown, dethorned berry bushes and an in game config menu through vanilla options menus.

Soft Foliage

Leaves aren't walls, they shouldn't feel like them.

Instead of treating foliage like solid walls, Soft Foliage lets you move through supported plants without being obstructed.

Optional Soft Platform behavior also lets foliage support you from above for a short time while still staying passable from below and from the sides.

Supported Foliage

Soft Foliage currently supports:

  • Leaves
  • Bamboo
  • Azalea
  • Flowering Azalea
  • Lily Pads through configurable Soft Platform behavior
  • Sweet Berry Bushes through configurable slowdown and damage settings

Soft Platforms

Supported foliage can optionally act like a soft temporary platform.

Available modes:

  • Disabled — foliage stays fully passable
  • Crouch Only — foliage supports you while crouching
  • Always — foliage briefly supports you when you land on it from above, while still remaining passable from other directions

You can also configure:

  • support duration
  • recovery timing
  • fall cushioning

Sweet Berry Bushes

Sweet Berry Bushes can be configured to stop being annoying too

The options be:

  • slow players down
  • deal contact damage

Transportation

Supported player-controlled vehicles/mounts can also be configured to move through selected foliage such as leaves and bamboo.

In-Game Configuration

Soft Foliage includes a full in-game settings screen.

Open it through:

Pause Menu → Options → World Options → Soft Foliage Settings

or use:

/softfoliage config

Multiplayer/Servers

In multiplayer the server controls the settings for all connected players.

The mod must be installed on both the client and server when playing multiplayer.

Soft Foliage 1.4.0 — Minecraft 26.2

Soft Foliage 1.4.0 is a major expansion of the mod’s original “leaves should feel soft” idea, adding broader foliage support, configurable platform behavior, berry-bush options, transportation support, and a proper in-game configuration interface.

New

  • Added soft foliage support for bamboo.
  • Added soft foliage support for azalea and flowering azalea.
  • Added configurable Soft Platform behavior for supported foliage.
  • Added configurable Soft Platform support for lily pads.
  • Added configurable Sweet Berry Bush slowdown.

  • Added configurable pass-through behavior for supported player-controlled transportation.

Soft Platform

Soft Platform now supports three behavior modes:

  • Disabled — foliage remains fully passable.
  • Crouch Only — supported foliage becomes solid while crouching.
  • Always — supported foliage can briefly support players arriving from above while remaining passable from the sides and below.

Additional settings control:

  • standing support duration;
  • recovery/reset timing;
  • fall cushioning;
  • foliage-specific platform behavior.

Configuration

  • Expanded the configuration schema for the new foliage and transportation options.
  • Added automatic migration for older Soft Foliage configuration files.
  • Server settings are authoritative while connected to a multiplayer server.
  • Local settings are restored when disconnecting from a server.

Fixes & Polish

  • Added the Soft Foliage Settings button cleanly into the vanilla World Options layout.
