Features
Scorchful is a Vanilla+ survival mod focused on Heat and Desert Survival. This mod increases the difficulty of the survival experience in warm biomes and The Nether.
Keeping Wet and Staying Cool
Scorchful makes exposure to the Sun more dangerous in the warm areas of the world like Jungles, Deserts, Savannas, and Badlands. When outside the protection of Shade, you will grow warmer over time. As you get warmer, you will face the increasing effects of heatstroke: including weakness, hunger, and mining fatigue.
Overcome the heat by Staying Wet. You can go for a dip in the pond or river, or even just dunk a bucket of water on yourself. If you drink water from Potions, Water Bottles, certain foods, or the new Water Skin and Cactus Juice, you are also able to Sweat, which provides the same cooling benefit as being wet!
Enhanced Nether Survival
The Nether is an extreme environment that brings many new perils. It is hotter than even the warmest places of the Overworld, which means water cannot remain in its liquid form so easily there. To stay cool, you will need to carry your own water with you to drink, or you can make use of the Nether Lillies found in the Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, and occasionally the Nether Wastes.
Crimson Lillies evolved in the harsh conditions of The Nether to have large root systems that can absorb the scant moisture from the surrounding Netherrack. They collect and use this moisture as a weapon against many of the Fire-born monsters of The Nether that might threaten it. While this may be an effective defense against many of the native inhabitants of The Nether, it is quite useful to us! Step on the Crimson Lillies for a quick soak, or harvest the water of the more tame Warped Lillies for long-term Nether survival.
Sandstorms
Sandstorms now form in Deserts and Badlands during weather events. When this happens, a thick sand fog will envelop the player, reducing their visibility but also blocking the heat of the Sun. This is not just a visual effect though. During sandstorms, mobs will be slowed, and Breezes will spawn. Sand Piles will also begin to accumulate and exposed Cauldrons will also fill with sand, allowing for Renewable Sand.
Not a fan of survival? No problem! The visual and audio effects of sandstorms can be downloaded as an entirely separate, standalone client-side mod in Immersive Storms!
Permissions
Scorchful is licensed under LGPL-3.0. You can use this mod in mod packs, YouTube videos, or anything else. You may copy, modify, and redistribute this mod provided you abide by the terms set forth in the license.
Configuration
Scorchful is extremely highly configurable. It has an extensive config that lets you play around with different settings, disable features, or tweak the values of various things to adjust the difficulty of the mod. For example, you can tweak how much heating you get from fire, or disable the ability to throw fire charges. It also has a fair amount of datapack integrations with data-driven temperature effects and tags for things like Heat Resistance on armor and water from food and drink.

Mod Integrations
Scorchful is designed to work alongside Frostiful, as its heat-focused sister mod. It also has out-of-the-box integration for Dehydration. Additionally, Thermoo Patches offers a suite of integration patches for many other mods, such as Origins, Fabric Seasons, Serene Seasons, Colorful Hearts, Overflowing Bars, Friends & Foes, and more!
- Frostiful: Scorchful has native support for Frostiful, and both mods are designed to work alongside each other. I highly recommend using both!
- Dehydration: If Dehydration is enabled, Scorchful will automatically disable the built-in thirst system and use Dehydration's instead.
- Nature's Spirit: Pink Sand Piles and Pink Cauldrons will replace Sand Piles and Sand Cauldrons in Pink Sand biomes.
- Colorful Hearts & Overflowing Bars: When using Thermoo Patches, burning Hearts will render on top of the new hearts from these mods. However, engulfed hearts currently do not work.
- Enchantment Descriptions: A description is provided for the Rehydration enchantment for Armor.
- Trinkets: The Sun Hat can be worn in the Hat slot, and provides the same benefits as when equipped in the regular head slot.
- Farmer's Delight: Foods and Drinks from Farmer's Delight have been integrated to provide water, where it makes sense to do so.
- Ad Astra: Netherite Space Suits provide Heat Resistance.
Compatibility
While this mod is designed to be as compatible as possible with other mods, sometimes issues will inevitably arise. Specific incompatibilities will be documented here and on the wiki as they become known.
- Tough as Nails -- Incompatible due to multiple temperature bars and no integration for its thirst mechanic. No real point in using these mods together anyway when Frostiful exists!
- PyroFrost -- PyroFrost has a temperature system different from Scorchful/Thermoo, so you will have 2 temperature bars.
- EnvironmentZ -- Same as PyroFrost.
- Thermite -- Same as PyrFrost.
- Most shader packs will likely break the fog effects in a Desert or Badlands during a sandstorm, but the other effects (particles, sand piles, and cauldrons) will still work as normal.
Requirements
This mod uses Fabric API, Thermoo, Mod Menu, and YACL. For Quilt users: replace Fabric API with the Quilt Standard Libraries. Some older versions of Scorchful use Cloth Config instead - be sure to check the dependencies for the version you're downloading.

Scorchful's Neoforge port is very experimental. It is still in alpha, and therefore may contain bugs and cause crashes. The port has also been created in a 'Fabric-like' manner using Forgified Fabric API and custom entry points to minimize the changes needed from the original version, which means that it may not work very well with the Neoforge ecosystem. Proceed with mild caution and please feel free to report issues to the issue tracker. Scorchful remains a Fabric-first mod and the Neoforge port is not likely to be updated to new Minecraft versions regularly.

Scorchful has been ported to Neoforge! This port is possible thanks to Forgified Fabric API and the Yumi Minecraft Foundation Library. Big thanks to them for making this relatively easy to do!
This port is roughly equivalent to the latest Scorchful for 1.21.1, 0.15.11+1.21.1.
Please note that this is an experimental Neoforge port of Scorchful. It is still in alpha, and therefore may contain bugs and cause crashes. This port has also been created in a 'Fabric-like' manner using Forgified Fabric API and custom entry points to minimize the changes needed from the original version, which means that it may not work very well with the Neoforge ecosystem. A few small fixes.
- Migrated Scorchful to Mojmap to prepare for a Neoforge port
- The Water Skin recipe will no longer load if Dehydration is installed
- Fixed Pink Sand Piles dropping Sand when a full block
- Note that these blocks are only registered if Nature's Spirit is installed
- Fixed the wetness bar flashing a lot at low wetness when sweating

Scorchful 0.18.0 for Minecraft 26.1.x: Someone should dust in here
- Added Dust and Red Dust, replacing the default drops of Sand Piles and Red Sand Piles, respectively.
- The Sand Pile and Red Sand Pile block items can still be obtained with a silk touch tool.
- Dust and Rest Dust can be crafted in a 2x2 pattern to produce Sand and Red Sand, respectively.
- Dust and Rest Dust can be smelted into Quartz
- Husks, Parched, and Camel Husks will drop 0-2 Dust on death, increasing by up to 1 per level of looting (exactly same rate as Husks drop Rotten Flesh).
- The Fear mob effect now reduces armor by 50% per level of Fear, and recolors the armor bar to be red.
- Drowned will now randomly spawn with Copper and Turtle Armor on Normal and Hard difficulty.
- The equipping logic is similar to how Zombies will spawn with armor.
- Drowned are 3x more likely to spawn with Copper armor than with Turtle.
- Renamed the
doSandPileAccumulationconfig option toenableSandPileAccumulationfor consistency.- This change will be automatically applied to existing configs with schema version 8.
- Fixed the Red Sand Cauldron not being properly pickaxe-mineable
- Fixed full Sand Pile and Red Sand Pile blocks (8 layers) not dropping their respective full blocks.
- Fixed an incorrect title for the Scorchful Creative Mode Tab.
- Fixed Engulfed Hearts rendering incorrectly.

Scorchful 0.17.0 for Minecraft 26.1.x: Deadlier Sandstorms
A first new content update for 26.1.x. This update aims to make sandstorms more dangerous to both make them more interesting and to align them better with the storms of Arrakis.
- Breezes now spawn naturally in packs of 1-2 during Sandstorms (and Blizzards).
- They will spawn during both the day and night.
- This can be disabled via config, but is enabled by default.
- Sandstorms can now be made suffocating.
- This feature is disabled by default.
- When it is thundering, being outside in a sandstorm will cause the player to lose air.
- When the player runs out of air, they will take suffocation damage (this is a custom damage type).
- This does not apply to non-player mobs, as that would result in mass casualty events during every sandstorm, but it can be controlled with the entity-type tag
#scorchful:suffocates_in_sandstorms.

Scorchful 0.16.9 for Minecraft 26.1
Scorchful is now available for Minecraft 26.1. The LTS policy for Scorchful has been updated, I now plan only to support the first game drop of the current year. For example, I will be supporting 26.1.x, but not 26.2.x. This is to allow me to focus more on creating cool new stuff for Scorchful, rather than spending almost all of my available time chasing the latest version. If a cool new major update releases mid-year, I may choose to update to and support that instead.

- Striders now get some armor when they are warm
- Added baby textures for Turtle Armor
- Added baby textures for the Sun Hat
- Fixed the Sun Hat rendering for specific humanoid mobs with meshes that are non-standard
- This applies to Husk, Wither Skeleton, Piglin, Zombified Piglin, Piglin Brute, and Zombie Villager
- These fixes are special cases and hardcoded, and will not work with modded humanoid mobs that have similar changes to their mesh.
