Null Presence is an atmospheric horror mod for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 It adds a silent entity known as Null, a dark presence that watches, appears, disappears, and slowly makes the world feel wrong. Null is not designed as a boss, a combat mob, or a destructive monster. It is meant to create tension through uncertainty, rare encounters, strange sounds, visual traces, and the feeling that something is nearby even when nothing is visible.

How Null behaves
Null can appear in different ways depending on the situation.
It may appear behind you while mining, walking, jumping, or cutting wood. It may stand far away and stare at you. It may appear near windows, inside your base, or behind you in small mine tunnels. Sometimes it leaves only a trace. Sometimes it does nothing at all.
If you look directly at Null, it usually disappears.
The mod is built around atmosphere, tension, and doubt rather than constant jumpscares.
Configuration
Null Presence includes an in-game configuration system.
Use:
/function null_presence:admin/config
You can configure multiple systems, including:
- spawn delay;
- core appearances;
- audio and pressure events;
- world haunt events;
- traces;
- advancements;
- debug options.
You can also check the current status with:
/function null_presence:admin/status
Important notes
Null Presence is currently released as a alpha.
Some events may lightly affect the world, such as placing redstone torches, signs, or small traces. The mod does not make Null deal damage, and Null is not intended to destroy your base.
For the best experience, play in survival mode with sound enabled and avoid forcing events too often through commands.

This update heavily improves Null’s horror behavior, stalking logic, and world presence.
Added
Added a new From The Fog-inspired stalking system for Null.
Added randomized sightings instead of predictable appearance cycles.
Added close-range appearances where Null can spawn directly behind the player, near the shoulder, in blind spots, or just outside the player’s view.
Added medium-range stalking appearances.
Added long-range lurking appearances where Null watches from far away.
Added cave and tunnel stalking behavior.
Added contextual false footsteps based on nearby blocks:

Added safety checks to keep Null grounded.
Added water and lava checks so Null no longer appears floating over lakes, rivers, or lava.
Added cleanup for orphaned Null display entities.
Changed
- Null’s appearances are now fully randomized instead of following a fixed pattern.
- Close sightings are now more common to make Null more threatening.
- Long-distance sightings still happen, but no longer dominate the experience.
- Hauntings now vary more between sightings, footsteps, ghost doors, traces, signs, and ambient events.
- Sign events are now much rarer.
- False footsteps are less frequent and less spammy.
- Null now respects pause windows between appearances so he feels unpredictable rather than constant.
- Cave stalking no longer relies on surface heightmaps, so Null should appear inside caves instead of above them.
- Spawn placement has been improved so Null stays on solid ground.
- Manual and automatic spawning were made more reliable.
- Advancements now trigger more consistently when Null appears.
- Config toggles were repaired and should no longer reset themselves incorrectly.
- The mod is now much quieter overall.
Removed / Disabled
- Disabled Null’s custom
playsoundevents. - Removed unwanted Darkness effects from Null events.
- Removed excessive particles from vanish and appearance logic.
- Disabled floating water/lava spawns.
- Removed predictable close → far → haunting appearance order.
Audio
- Null no longer uses custom sounds.
- Only vanilla cave ambience and contextual vanilla block footsteps may play.
- Custom audio files remain inside the JAR but are not actively played by commands.

Notes
This version focuses on making Null feel more unpredictable, silent, and psychologically oppressive. He should now appear closer, more often, and in more varied situations, while still using pauses and randomized haunting events to avoid becoming too predictable.
