In vanilla Minecraft, if you're mining/chopping/digging and don't notice your tool's durability bar, it can break.

What it does instead: The mod watches your held item every tick. The instant a tool (pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, or shears — configurable individually) hits exactly 1 durability left, it automatically switches you away from it so it survives.

It respects you: If you manually switch back to that "about to break" tool on purpose, the mod won't fight you and force-switch it away again — it only acts on drops it detects itself, not on your deliberate choices. Configurable destination behavior; where it swaps you to when it pulls the dying tool out of your hand. Based on the code, the options are:

a. Empty Hotbar Slot b. Another Similar Tool (i.e. a spare of the same type) c. Another Tool Entirely d. Any Hotbar Slot (ascending order, i.e. if you have tool on 5th bar it moves to 6th)

Settings screen: It integrates with Mod Menu + Cloth Config, so you get an in-game config screen to toggle protection per tool type and pick the destination behavior — no editing config files by hand.

It's a lightweight "quality of life / anti-frustration" mod — no new items, blocks, or gameplay changes, just protecting your gear.
