An add-on mod for Hex Casting that adds interactive menus, intent-based utility blocks, and portal-style threshold spells.

HexIntent

I started this mod after I fell in love with Hex Casting. It started out as a menu system built to allow dynamic input into hexes, to take a players intent and have it influence a hex. That's where the mod got its name.

Over time I added more features, and I began to realise what it is I was wanting to add to Hex Casting. I was adding things that were more physical and visual to the world of Hex Casting. Things that showed the intent of the caster, through menus, particles, visual spell circles, new staffs. They were all adding to the phsyiscal aspect of the already rich world of Hex Casting. So this is what this mod has evolved into.

Main Features

  • Manifest Menus: Create menus through hex that allow you to dynamically change hexes.
  • Manifest Relay: Spooky action at a distance. This hex creates a surface on a block that when interacted with, relays that interaction to a target. Think triggering toolsmith impetus from a distance etc.
  • Manifest Threshold: Force two points in space to become one. Crossing this threshold instantly moves you between these locations.
  • Splinters: Independant casters that can be summoned. They split large workd loads over multiple ticks.
  • Equation Hex Cloud: First off, great name, I know. This lets you create large multi point particle clouds and animations based on mathematical equations, keeping them optimised.
  • Equation Synthesizer: This is how you create those Equation Iotas. There's a bunch of presets baked in so don't panic, you don't have to learn maths to use it.
  • Hex Trail: The similar but very different thing to Equation Hex Cloud. This is a single particle that has a memory. You give it an ID and if that ID is the same accross recasts, it will smoothly animate between it's current position and the new positin given in the recast. This means you can do things like creating nice smooth transitions by animating every 5,8,10, however many ticks, instead of updating it's position every tick. But you don't have to understand ticks to get the full benefit, which is nice animations.

Additional Features

  • Memory Crystals: Like properties from hexcellular but tied to an item. You can also really jam these things into items capable of casting or storing iotas. Giving them a portable memory bank. I was told they're great for charms, for those subverting the natural laws of order with lani, whatever that means.
  • The Mind Vault: Who doesn't love the musical grunts of villagers? But if you do get tired of them, why not consume them body and mind into a vault? Store villager minds for use in Flaying. The minds have a cooldown and can be re-used!
  • Hex Reliquary: Store up to 5 patterns in this. Using a focus with a pattern will store it in a slot, and a blank focus will copy it.
  • Charming Intent: Give your Hexical charmed items a bit of flair by giving them a new sound on cast. Requires the latest Hexical for this.

🐛 Reporting Issues

If you encounter crashes, bugs, catastrophic meltdown or just unexpected behavior, please report them through the issue tracker and include:

  • Minecraft version
  • Mod loader version
  • Installed mods
  • Crash reports or latest.log files where possible

  • Splinters now exit on mishap correctly.
  • Ravenminds now work across splinter renew again.

  • Splinters now inherit the ravenmind from the stack they are cast in.

Highlights are a major rework of Splinters and a new pattern execution Gambit.

New Features:

  • Saturn's Gambit: Executes a pattern list like Herme's Gambit but splits large work loads in the form of large iterable lists over multiple ticks.

Changes:

  • Staffs no longer have discount as discounts are potentially exploitable. They now act as mana batteries with a cap of 400 and a regeneration of 5 dust per 30 seconds.
  • Inputs in menus return null iota if no input is given.
  • Splinters now split large lists over multiple ticks. This stops freezing in single player and reduces lag spikes in multiplayer. Useful for things like cubic or spherical exaltation. Can be configured using presets: safe, balanced, fast, blast. Blast is close to normal hex casting behaviour.
  • Splinters now cost 1/500 dust to move.
  • Destroy current splinter pattern added, can only be cast from a splinter.
  • Chinese translations thanks to contributor. I've tried to keep these up to date using Google Translate, so I apologise if they're not great. I am happy to leave them in English going forward so it's easier to spot which ones need replacing.
  • A lot of tests and debug telemetry. This was to help me debug Splinters as the initial idea quickly spiralled. I've kept them in and giving them meaninful text to help debug any issues players may have. They're gated behind a toggle so won't spam your logs.

Fixes

  • Hexical mixin is now gated to 2.0.0 and should just silently fail when that version is not present.
  • Hex Trail is visible again after I changed the rendering buffer causing inconsistency.
  • Hex Equation Cloud is also visible again, same issue as above.
  • Added menus manifestation back to online documentation.
  • Improved the animations of things like portals opening, hex trails and equations so they're not as dependent on server time. Large TPS meant poor animations.

HexIntent 2.1.6

Not many additional features but a ton of refactoring bringing more stability and easier maintability.

New Features:

  • Memory Crystals: Like properties from hexcellular but tied to an item. You can also really jam these things into items capable of casting or storing iotas. Giving them a portable memory bank. I was told they're great for charms, for those subverting the natural laws of order with lani, whatever that means.
  • Permanent Thresholds: Casting manifest threshold with 35 charged crystals worth of media on a threshold frame will create a permanent threshold. The Presence Intent used as the destination must also be the location of a block of a portal frame.

Changes To Gameplay:

  • Presence Intents now cost 35 Charged Crystals to make.
  • Equation Synthesiser can now take time as a parameter.
  • Thresholds can take an optional label and pigment.
  • Put a check in to prevent flaying minds from a Mind Vault into another Mind Vault. That felt like cheating.
  • Hard dependency on more iotas, strings are used for Menus.

Fixes

  • Equation Hex Cloud refactored to hopefully prevent rare occasions where it would appear at an offset whilst animating.
  • Variable parameter patterns now use a helper to avoid confusion when the stack is greater than the total parameter number.
  • Numerous rewrites of the documentation so no more overflows in the book.
  • Added costs to the documentation.
  • Rewrote the visual spell circle to use Hex Castings serializer to prevent string size issues.
  • Open Casting Grid now works without a staff.

Changes

  • Hex Menus now use the proper serialiser from Hex Casting instead of a custom one.
  • Mixins are now done properly, not more reflections! (I mean, as properly as I'm aware lol).
  • Refactored a lot of Actions to use the proper classes.

A lof of stuff added and tweaked this version!

Added

  • Added Hex Reliquary which allows you to copy up to 5 patterns from focuses.
  • Added more staffs to expand loadout variety and casting style options.
  • Added Mind Vault support, flay up to 6 villagers into it for storage and re-use.
  • Added Hex Trail Cloud effects to do large scale particle effects driven by equations.
  • Added a Particle Synthesiser for creating custom hex cloud effects.
  • Added spell circles to display hex patterns
  • Added a new pattern that halts a hex when used as a charm on right-click interactions that would normally cast on interactive blocks or entities.

Improvements

  • Cleaned up and reorganized the docs layout for clearer navigation.
  • Added support to change charm sound behavior.
  • Portals now show your Soulglimmer colour and can have labels.
  • Improved splinter batching on the server for more efficient processing and better performance under heavier load.
