GAG (Gadgets Against Grind) is a NeoForge / cross-platform (up to 1.20.1) utility mod where the goal of each item is to reduce the amount of "grind" a player will have to face during their day-to-day modded business, while (optimally) keeping a Vanilla feel to every item and not feeling too cheaty compared to using something like commands. Some of things GAG adds include:

  • A way to easily teleport your way out of caves (Escape Rope)
  • Hearthstones that can teleport you to your personal spawn point or world spawn, as well as a variant that you can bind to any location!
  • A No Soliciting! Sign to block certain pesky intruders from entering your base.
  • Different types of Dynamite for easier mining and fishing!
  • A way to tick accelerate blocks, Time-in-a-Bottle style (Temporal Pouch, might be reworked in the future)
  • Multiple ways to stop mobs from spawning near you temporarily, enabling you to mine in peace (Sacred Salt, Balm and Salve)
  • A Labeling Tool to rename your items on the go without consuming tons of experience
    • (NEW!) With Pigment Jars, you can now give your favourite tools custom colored names!

Most parameters of these items are configurable by pack developers, and I personally recommend changing the recipes and / or disable some of the features entirely if you do not deem them a good fit for your pack. The defaults are all done with something close-ish to Vanilla in mind, so your mileage may vary.

More items will probably be added in the future as I can come up with novel (enough) ideas, or if I like a suggestion submitted to me on GitHub enough :P

This release fixes some minor issues with component formatting and the EMI plugin, which now uses its own random instead of the world random.

Also, version numbers have changed format because I've switched to AlmostGradle for my build workflows. If this causes an issue for anybody, please let me know!

This release fixes not being able to enchant the breakable items in this mod with Unbreaking / Mending outside of Creative Mode, and otherwise contains some minor UX and description improvements.

This release fixes a bug when having multiple Temporal Pouches in your inventory at the same time, as well as a minor bug with EMI recipes.

It also improves the way that on-screen tooltips look so that everything is less visually noisy! (I wanted to make some changes to inventory tooltips as well, but those will have to come later)

This release fixes a bug where every breakable item was actually unbreakable (due to some Minecraft code changes I didn't notice in 1.21)

This also means that item durability configs need to match on client and server now, however, if you are a server admin that wants to change the durability of Hearthstones or Escape Ropes for your server specifically, consider using a custom recipe where you set the max_damage component on the item yourself!

Older releases may be uploaded from CF at a later date, but don't count on it :p I still need to get a proper CI set up and everything...

The newest release of GAG for MC 1.20.4 at the time of writing (June 19th 2025)... Yeah I'm not supporting 1.20.4 at all, sorry, I mostly made this version of FTB if I recall correctly.

Also the first version that switched to NeoForge and Placebo only :3

This version requires FTB Library, which as of June 2025 is not available on Modrinth!
