Exposure: Space

Astrophotography progression for Exposure. Point your camera at the night sky, hunt real cosmic objects, develop the photos and fill your personal star album.

What does it add?

🔭 200+ real cosmic objects — from the Moon's craters to Sagittarius A*. Planets, exoplanets, moons, comets, asteroids, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, pulsars, quasars and a few anomalies. Every single one has its own pixel-art texture, description and reward.

objects

📷 Telescopic lenses (5 tiers) — from the humble Bad lens to the Sculk lens that sees absolutely everything. Higher tiers reveal rarer, fainter objects.

🟣 Space Filter — a camera attachment with deep space trapped in its glass. Required to capture cosmic objects; install it together with a lens.

🪐 Objects live in the actual sky. They appear on real night-sky positions, hide behind terrain, scale with your zoom — and not every object shows up every night. Some, like Halley's Comet, are a once-in-a-lifetime sight. The ISS, Hubble and comets even move across the sky in real time.

🌠 Night sky events — some nights a Meteor Shower, an Aurora Storm or a Deep Sky Night rolls in: appearance chances get boosted, the Analyzer works up to 2× faster, and event-exclusive objects show up — fireballs, auroras, STEVE, the Zodiacal Light and the Gegenschein exist only during their events.

📡 Night Analyzer — a craftable observatory block. Right-click it to learn what's happening in the sky tonight: event name, luck and analysis multipliers, how many exclusive objects are up there. No chat spam — checking the sky is part of the hobby.

🛠 Photo Analyzer — an astronomer's desk with a spectrum screen (and Wi-Fi, obviously). Feed it a developed photograph: it identifies the object, writes it into your album and pays out rewards into 8 output slots.

Content

📖 Cosmic Album — a craftable book (amethyst + paper + book + leather) that collects every object you've studied as a glued-in polaroid: photo, story, object type, and a "Visit on Wikipedia" link for the real thing. Fill all 200+ pages if you dare.

🧭 Villager trades — cartographers (levels 4–5) and wandering traders sell archival photographs of cosmic objects, ready for the Analyzer. Event-exclusive ones are never sold — those you earn.

🏆 Advancements — a full tree: first analysis, halfway there, complete album, event photography and a few secrets.

🔁 Repeat rewards — by default, an object's full reward becomes available again every 5 in-game days (configurable, or disable it entirely).

🌑 Dark-room friendly — Exposure's Lightroom normally refuses to print in the dark. Cosmic photos are exempt: astrophotography should be developed at night.

📐 Camera Stand support — aim and capture through a mounted camera.

🍪 Cosmic Leftover — a creative-only snack that fills your hunger and unlocks the entire album in one bite.

⚙️ Fully data-driven — objects and events are JSON in a datapack (data/<ns>/cosmic_object/, data/<ns>/cosmic_event/), plus live-editable external folders (config/exposure_space/objects/, config/exposure_space/events/) for adding your own without rebuilding anything. Admins get /cosmicevent. ModMenu config screen included.

Requirements

Mod Why
Exposure the camera itself
Exposure: Expanded tier-1 telescopic lens
Architectury API, Prism, Cloth Config libraries

Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric & NeoForge. On Fabric you also need Fabric API; ModMenu optional but recommended.

Quick start

  1. Craft a Space Filter and a Telescopic Lens, install both on your camera.
  2. Wait for night, raise the viewfinder and scan the sky — found objects get a target lock.
  3. Take the shot, develop the film, print the photo in a Lightroom.
  4. Put the photograph into the Photo Analyzer and collect your reward.
  5. Craft the Cosmic Album and admire your growing collection.

1.2.7Релиз1.21.1 · 10 августа 2026 г.

🔭 1.2.7 Performance fix

Smoother nights, and a catalog that pays properly.

Runs lighter now. The sky and the viewfinder used to redo the same work every frame — now they work it out once and share it. Same stars, same places, fewer frames spent thinking about it. The Analyzer and the Lightroom got the same treatment, so a busy server with several Analyzers going has a much easier time of it.

Rewards, retuned across all 256 objects. Payout now follows the lens you needed and the kind of thing you shot. Pulsars pay redstone, comets pay ice, probes pay the parts you'd build a probe out of, black holes pay obsidian and netherite. Diamonds moved up to the top two tiers where they belong, and anything slow to analyse or rarely in the sky pays a bonus on top.

Film comes back to you. Exposure film used to drop from six objects — it now drops from eighty-one, scaling from black-and-white up to high-sensitivity colour at Sculk tier. Your astrophotography habit should start funding itself.

Nothing in your world changes and no configs need touching. Objects sit exactly where they always did, and studied entries keep their progress.

Requires Exposure and Architectury API. Works on dedicated servers — install the same jar on both sides.

1.2.6Релиз1.21.1 · 28 июля 2026 г.

🔭 1.2.6 HOTFIX

The Telescopic Lens is craftable again — for everyone.

The tier-2 lens recipe asked for the tier-1 lens from Exposure: Expanded, a mod listed as optional. Minecraft quietly drops any recipe containing an unknown item, so without Expanded installed the recipe simply vanished — no entry in JEI, no lens, and since every higher tier is built from the one below, no telescope progression at all. Thanks to everyone who reported the mysteriously missing recipe.

The middle slot now takes Exposure: Expanded's lens if you have it, or a plain spyglass if you don't, so the upgrade path is intact for Expanded users and the whole lens tree works in a vanilla Exposure setup. Nothing else about the recipe changed.

Everyone should update — on older versions the lenses are uncraftable without Expanded.

Requires Exposure and Architectury API. Works on dedicated servers — install the same jar on both sides.

1.2.5Релиз1.21.1 · 26 июля 2026 г.

🔭 1.2.5

The Analyzer got a power cord, and the sky got 50 new things to point a camera at.

50 new cosmic objects. Alphard, Wezen and the Przybylski star with its impossible chemistry; the Flame, Pacman, Jellyfish and Elephant's Trunk nebulae; the ghostly Malin 1 and the colliding Porpoise Galaxy; WASP-76b where it rains molten iron; ring-wearing Chariklo, the interstellar comet 2I/Borisov, the Parker Solar Probe and Gaia; M87* — the first black hole ever photographed. All 256 objects were redrawn through the same pixel-art pipeline, so the newcomers sit in the Cosmic Album like they were always there.

Everything in the Solar System drifts now. Planets creep about half a degree an hour, moons and asteroids a little faster, so a shot you lined up last night needs re-aiming tonight.

BETA — Jade overlay (on by default). Look at a working Photo Analyzer and read the study progress, the object's name and the percentage straight off the overlay. Requires Jade on the server as well as the client.

BETA — tech mod energy (off by default). Flip betaEnergyRequired and the Analyzer becomes a real machine with a 5,000 FE buffer: AE2 (it joins the ME grid as a proper network node, so ME cables connect to it and draw from network power), Mekanism / EnderIO / Flux / Pipez on NeoForge, and Tech Reborn / Modern Industrialization and friends on Fabric. No power, no science — the scan pauses and keeps its progress until the electricity comes back.

Stellar View (off by default). Objects you've already studied stay visible in the night sky with the naked eye. The layer politely steps aside while you're aiming through the viewfinder, so photographing them works exactly as before.

The Night Analyzer has a proper GUI — a starfield panel with tonight's event, its luck and analysis multipliers, and the exclusive objects hanging up there, instead of a wall of chat text.

Requires Exposure and Architectury API. Works on dedicated servers — install the same jar on both sides.

Every photo is properly framed now. 83 object textures were sitting slightly off-center in their frame — planets leaning left, the ISS hugging the top edge, Tiangong practically escaping orbit. All 200+ textures have been re-centered, so polaroids in the Cosmic Album (and objects in the sky) finally look the way an astronomer would want them.

Requires Exposure and Architectury API.
