Death Sorter is a vanilla-friendly datapack that automatically restores your inventory layout when picking up your items after death.
When a player dies, their items are dropped as usual, with the risk of being destroyed or despawning. Upon retrieving their items, they are placed in the same slot they were in before death including armor and offhand slots, as long as those slots are not already occupied.
