DAGMod: A Fantasy RPG Experience in Minecraft

v1.10.0 for Minecraft 26.2 (Fabric)

The Minecraft Version for 1.21.11 is End of Life (EOL). It will not be updated in the future. I am trying to stay current with Minecraft and its current features.

DAGMod transforms Minecraft into a comprehensive fantasy RPG. Choose a unique race and class, master powerful abilities, level up through a dynamic quest system, and conquer procedurally generated dungeons filled with custom bosses — all the way to level 200.

✨ Core Features

  • 🎭 Choose Your Path: Combine one of 4 distinct races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Orc) with one of 3 powerful classes (Warrior, Mage, Rogue). Each combination unlocks one of 9 unique synergies granting special passive abilities tailored to your playstyle.
  • 📈 Level Up & Grow Stronger: Progress from level 1 to 200 with a classic XP system. Earn experience from combat, mining, quests, and gathering. Gain +1 heart every 10 levels, +1 attack every 5 levels, and +1 armor every 10 levels — up to +20 hearts, +40 attack, and +20 armor at max level.
  • 📜 Embark on Epic Quests: Discover over 64 quests across four difficulty tiers (Novice → Apprentice → Expert → Master). Complete 4 race-specific epic quest chains of 10 quests each, unlocking higher tiers at levels 5, 15, and 25.
  • ⚔️ Master Unique Abilities: Warriors have 5 devastating melee abilities, Mages wield 4 permanent spells plus wands and scrolls, and Rogues operate a dual ability system — 7 abilities split between an Energy Tome and cooldown items, plus a passive backstab.
  • 🏰 Explore a Living World: Procedurally generated Bone Dungeons spawn in desert and badlands biomes with 10 unique structure pieces (hallways, crossways, stairways, treasure rooms, and more) — every dungeon is different. New structures include the Hall of Champions, village inns, taverns, and shops.
  • 🌐 Custom Dimensions: Venture into the Bone Realm (undead dimension with boss hierarchy) and the Dragon Realm (Scorched dimension with the 300 HP Dragon Guardian flying boss). Six additional themed dimensions are also included.
  • 🛒 Merchant System: Trade with 13 unique NPCs, each with distinct specialties and rotating premium inventories cycling every 72 hours. Merchants include the Armorer, Alchemist, Blacksmith, Jeweler, Mystery Merchant, Enchantsmith, and more.
  • 👥 Party System: Team up with up to 5 players for shared XP (scaling bonuses from +5% to +20%) and cooperative party quests ranging from Easy to Legendary difficulty within a 50-block XP sharing radius.
  • 🎒 Collect Epic Loot: Over 100 custom items including 11 armor sets (6 with progressive set bonuses), 15 special weapons, 9 synergy-bonused shields, 5 Mythril tools, 26 custom enchantments, class-specific consumables, fantasy foods, and magical scrolls.
  • ⚰️ Death Recovery: A grave block spawns at your death location storing all non-soulbound items. Coordinates are shown in chat. Your grave persists across restarts, and void deaths safely snap your grave to the surface.

🚀 Getting Started

  1. Installation: Install Minecraft 26.2, Fabric Loader 0.19.3+, and Fabric API 0.150.2+26.2. Drop the DAGMod JAR into your mods folder.
  2. Find the Hall of Champions: A Hall Locator item spawns in your inventory — hold it to navigate to the Hall of Champions, your starting hub for race and class selection, merchants, and quests.
  3. Choose Your Race & Class: Interact with the Race Selection Altar and then the Class Selection Altar inside the Hall. Your race is permanent; your class can be changed later with reset items.
  4. Begin Questing: Find Quest Blocks in or around the Hall of Champions. Accept Novice-tier quests and work your way up through the tier system as you level.

v1.10.0 Release Notes

Released: 2026-08-07

What's New

7 Race/Class-Specific Enchantments

Every race and class now has a dedicated enchantment, obtainable only via the enchanting table or anvil by a matching player:

  • Dwarf — Deep Striker (weapon, max level 5): +10% attack damage per level while fighting below sea level
  • Elf — Forest's Blessing (weapon, max level 5): +10% attack damage per level while standing in a forest-tagged biome
  • Orc — Berserker's Fury (weapon, max level 5): up to +8% attack damage per level, scaling with missing health
  • Human — Versatile (helmet, max level 5): +5% bonus XP per level, stacking additively on the existing +25% Human race passive
  • Warrior — Immovable (armor, max level 5): +2% knockback resistance per level
  • Mage — Arcane Amplification (helmet, max level 5): +10% power per level to all 4 core mage abilities, stacking with Overcharge Dust
  • Rogue — Shadow Step (armor, max level 5): +5% per level passive chance to dodge a hit entirely, independent of the timed Phantom Dust/Perfect Dodge buffs

If you later reset your race or class, the enchantment stays on the item but stops doing anything until you match again.

Loot Tables for Medieval and Pale Garden Castle Chests

Both castle structures now have populated loot tables in their chests.

w

Bug Fixes

  • Mana/Energy/Cooldown HUD bars overlapping vanilla UI — all three class resource bars overlapped the vanilla air-bubble/mount-health row; raised from screenHeight - 49 to screenHeight - 65

Migration Notes

No new world required. Existing Pale Garden and castle chunks keep their current terrain and layout — only newly generated chunks pick up the custom noise settings and multi-piece castle jigsaw.

If upgrading from v1.8.x, see v1.9.0 release notes for earlier world generation migration guidance.

v1.9.0 Release Notes

Released: 2026-07-28

Disclaimer" Expect some features to be buggy. If you find an issue please report it on my GitHub. I will try to get them fixed and released in the next update.

What's New

Village Inn as the Spawn Hub

World spawn now generates near a Village Inn rather than the Hall of Champions. The inn sits within a few hundred blocks of spawn and is your first stop for lodging, Innkeeper Garrick, and initial quests. Use the Hall Locator item to navigate to the Hall of Champions when you're ready.

Hall of Champions is Now a Destination

The Hall of Champions has been moved much farther from spawn (~2000 block spacing, up from ~1000). It is a mid-to-late-game landmark — not something you walk into on day one.

Innkeeper Garrick — Full Guild Registry

Innkeeper Garrick (found at the Village Inn) now handles race and class selection through interactive chat dialogue. He presents stat summaries for each option and hands out starter gear immediately on selection. Physical altars at the Hall of Champions remain functional as an alternative.

Class Trainer NPC

A dedicated Class Trainer NPC at the Hall of Champions handles all class quest chains. Right-click to see your full class chain progress with clear status indicators. After Garrick's three tutorial tasks, he directs you to the Class Trainer.

Blacksmith's Anvil

A permanent, indestructible Blacksmith's Anvil block is now available. Opens the standard anvil GUI for renaming, enchantment combining, and repair. Cannot be broken in Survival.

Merchant Tier Gating

Advanced and legendary stock on Hall of Champions merchants is now locked behind quest completion. Merchants hint at what quests unlock their premium stock. Basic goods remain always available.

Season System Operational

The four-season system is now POTENTIALLY working:

  • Bug was fixed for every tick notification. Still testing the actual seasonal effects work.
  • Crop growth rates apply correctly per season (Spring fastest, Winter slowest)
  • Sleeping through the night advances the season day counter
  • Seasonal weather patterns and biome-specific effects fire correctly
  • Season transition messages accurately describe each season's mechanics

Dragon Realm Return Portal

Returning from the Dragon Realm now takes you to your bed or respawn anchor (if set in the overworld), or to configured world spawn. No longer hardcoded to 0, 64, 0.

Bug Fixes

  • Season predicates — All 20 predicate files used wrong key for MC 26.2 ("type" instead of "condition"), disabling all weather and biome effects. Corrected
  • Season gamerule namerandomTickSpeed renamed to random_tick_speed (MC 26.2). Growth rates now apply correctly
  • Sleep detection — Season day advancement now uses scoreboard stat comparison for reliable sleep detection
  • Blacksmith's Anvil hitbox — Corrected to exact model geometry for both orientations
  • Blacksmith's Anvil rotation — Fixed placement so the long axis faces correctly
  • Blacksmith's Anvil GUI — Menu no longer closes immediately on open
  • Citrine quest gating — Unlock conditions corrected
  • Class Trainer stale progress — Quest progress is now refreshed before checking completion state
  • Quest Block texture — Now displays the custom texture instead of vanilla bookshelf textures
  • NPCs now stationary — All 16 NPC entity classes no longer wander

Migration Notes

New world recommended. Village Inn spawn hub and HoC rarity changes only affect newly generated chunks.

Updating an existing world:

  1. Back up your world folder
  2. Use MCA Selector to delete unvisited chunks near spawn so they regenerate
  3. Install the new jar — regenerated chunks will have the Village Inn near spawn

No item IDs changed. Existing inventories and data carry over without loss.

What's New in v1.8.2

Disclaimer: There is a bug with the /Seasons function that will at every tick cause the seasons to go into the next one and annoyingly flood the chat with messages. Please do not use that function. (Fixed in v1.9.0)

Village NPC Structures

7 standalone NPC buildings now generate across plains, forest, and taiga biomes. Each is an independent structure locatable with /locate structure dagmod:<name>:

  • village_inn — traveller's rest stop
  • village_tavern — drinks and rumours
  • village_shop_1 / village_shop_2 — general goods
  • village_traders_1 — roaming merchant stall
  • village_jeweler — gems and fine wares
  • village_blacksmith — weapons and repairs

Buildings share a placement grid (spacing ~256 blocks) so you'll find a mix of types within a reasonable exploration radius.

Note: Structures only generate in newly explored chunks. Use /locate structure dagmod:village_inn (or any building name) to find the nearest one.

Bug Fixes

  • Dynamic lighting terrain not updating — Held-item lighting now correctly illuminates terrain blocks as you move. The chunk rebuild system was calling setSectionRangeDirty with raw block coordinates instead of section coordinates (1 section = 16 blocks), marking chunks near the world origin as dirty instead of chunks around the player
  • Village NPC structure set not loading — The old jigsaw setup referenced a missing village_docks.nbt, causing the entire village structure set to silently fail on world init. /locate structure dagmod:village_npc would always return no results. Replaced with 7 individual structures

Changes

  • Hall of Champions rarity — Spacing increased 40→64 chunks, separation 12→20. Halls are now ~2.5× rarer (one per ~1024 blocks vs ~640 blocks)
  • Village exclusion zones — Hall exclusion radius around villages reduced 15→8 chunks; bone dungeon exclusion 12→6 chunks

DAGMod Release Notes

v1.7.10 — Quest System Overhaul, Job Board Expansion & Dynamic Lighting

Released: 2026-04-13

What's New in v1.7.10

Dynamic Held-Item Lighting

No more stopping to place torches every few steps. Hold any light-emitting item and it illuminates the area around you in real time:

  • Torch — radius 14 blocks
  • Lantern / Sea Lantern / Shroomlight / Jack o'Lantern / Campfire / Glowstone / Nether Star — radius 15 blocks (full range)
  • Lava Bucket / End Rod — radius 12 blocks
  • Soul Torch / Soul Lantern / Soul Campfire — radius 10 blocks (dim blue glow)
  • Blaze Rod / Fire Charge — radius 8 / 10 blocks
  • Glow Berries — radius 5 blocks
  • Redstone Torch / Glowstone Dust — radius 5 / 4 blocks

Both main hand and off hand are checked; whichever is brighter wins. Brightness falls off smoothly to zero at the edge of the radius. Self-contained — no external mod required.

Quest Book Upgrade System Rework

The quest book upgrade system has been completely overhauled to work correctly:

  • Chain completion is now the sole upgrade gate — The old threshold-based path (5/15/25 quests completed) has been removed entirely. It was never reliable, using a stub approximation instead of real tracking
  • Physical book swap on upgrade — When a chain completes and your book upgrades, the old book is automatically removed from your inventory and replaced with the new tier. You will never accumulate outdated books
  • Adventurer's Path now 4 questsThe Beginning (gather 5 logs) has been added as the second quest in the chain: Garrick's WelcomeThe BeginningEquip YourselfReady for Adventure
  • First quest auto-assigned — When you combine Garrick's 3 Notes into a Novice Quest Book at the Quest Block, Garrick's Welcome is automatically started. No need to find and accept it manually

Job Board Expansion

The Job Board has grown from 4 jobs to 19 jobs across all accessible tiers:

NOVICE (available from the start)

  • Gather Cobblestone, Hunt Zombies, Collect Wheat (existing)
  • New: Chop Wood, Catch Fish, Hunt Spiders, Gather Wool, Collect Sand, Skeleton Patrol

APPRENTICE (level 10+, Apprentice book required)

  • Mine Raw Iron (existing)
  • New: Mine Coal, Hunt Creepers, Collect Leather, Mine Raw Gold, Gather Pumpkins

EXPERT (level 25+, Expert book required)

  • Deep Miner (existing)
  • New: Hunt Endermen, Mine Diamonds, Hunt Blazes, Collect Obsidian

Early-Game Quest Flexibility

Six quests that previously required specific biome-locked wood types now accept any equivalent material:

  • The Beginning, Wanderer — any logs
  • Seedling, Roots Run Deep — any saplings / any logs
  • Village Founder, Village Builder — any planks
  • Garrick's tutorial Task 1 — any logs (was Oak only)

Bug Fixes

  • Pre-placed Skeleton King throne room chests always empty — Chests placed inside the Throne Room NBT structure were never saving their loot table tag. LockedBoneChestBlockEntity now auto-assigns the correct loot table on chunk load for any unopened chest missing one
  • Quest item consumption not syncing to clientconsumeItems() was calling stack.decrement() directly on the ItemStack object, which never triggered markDirty() on the inventory. Items disappeared server-side but reappeared visually until the next forced sync. Fixed across CollectObjective, TagCollectObjective, InnkeeperGarrickNPC, and QuestBlock
  • Quest book upgrade conflict — Two upgrade paths competed silently; the threshold path could fire before chain completion, or not at all. Fully removed in favour of chain-based upgrades
  • The Beginning quest not counting toward Adventurer's Path — The quest was re-enabled but not added to the chain definition, so completing it never progressed the chain

Requirements

Component Version
Minecraft 1.21.11
Fabric Loader 0.18.4+
Fabric API 0.141.1+1.21.11

Updating

Your existing progress is safe — race, class, level, and quest data all persist across updates.

  1. Back up your world
  2. Remove the old DAGMod .jar from your mods folder
  3. Install the v1.7.10 .jar
  4. Launch Minecraft

Migration Notes

  • Existing Skeleton King throne room chests — If you have an existing world with pre-placed throne room chests that are empty, they will automatically receive their loot table the next time those chunks are loaded. No commands needed
  • Quest book upgrade — Players who were waiting on the old threshold upgrade prompt will not see it anymore. If your chain quests are all completed, the upgrade will trigger on your next quest turn-in. If not, complete the remaining chain quests to earn the book
  • Active quests — All active and completed quest data is preserved. No resets

Known Issues

  • Harmless "Block-attached entity at invalid position" warnings in server logs during worldgen (vanilla Minecraft issue, no gameplay impact)
  • See GitHub Issues for anything else reported
