So, uh, what does this mod add exactly?

Currently, this mod adds 32 new foods to the game (21 shown here). Well, I say "new," but they're more or less built from the already existing foods. No new crops or anything like that.

why u make dis mod

I wanted to make other items in Minecraft more viable for making food so that there aren't just two or three de facto foods that players end up using.
I generally go by three rules:

Limit my base additions to vanilla items as much as possible.
Give each and every food item a niche that remains beneficial no matter which stage of the game you're at.
Try and fail to make my additions thematically appropriate. Your mileage may vary with this one.

added new foods: baked apple, roasted brown/red mushroom, fish soup:
fisherman villagers will trade you fish soup for emeralds
added cod surprise:
what does it do? that's the surprise!
added seafoam pudding:
a peculiar dish that gives you Luck
added ice cream:
comes in 8 additional flavors, each with a unique effect

Fast and Festive Update:

Rebalanced most of the food items
Some items are now configured to be "fast food," meaning that they are now eaten more quickly; By default, this includes:
- bacon (raw and cooked)
- cookies (regular, sugar, and pumpkin
The config file has returned, and you can use it to tweak which items are considered "fast food"
- /!\ Cloth Config API has been added as a dependency as a result! /!\
Sugar and pumpkin cookies can now be frosted with additional sugar and colored with dye
- an unfrosted version of the pumpkin cookie has been added to match
Added cookie cutters, made from a single copper ingot in a stonecutter:
- square
- star
- tree
- creeper
New variants of sugar cookies have been added, obtained by using its respective cookie cutter in the recipe
