Cobblemon Environment Interactions

Turn your Cobblemon partners into useful field companions!

Cobblemon Environment Interactions adds Pokemon-powered mining and utility interactions while riding a Cobblemon Pokemon or commanding one nearby companion Pokemon.

NOTE: if using pasture blocks, the mod may detect pasture pokemon as companions and therefore ask for only a single pokemon to be out.

NOTE: only works with actual Cobblemon Pokemon, not vanilla mobs or other mods' Pokemon.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • Java 21
  • Fabric Loader 0.18.4+ and Fabric API 0.116.11+1.21.1, or NeoForge 21.1.229+
  • Cobblemon 1.7.3+1.21.1

Optional, but recommended:

  • Mod Menu 11.0.3 on Fabric
  • Cloth Config API 15.0.140

For multiplayer, install the mod on both the server and every client.

Installation

  1. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 1.21.1.
  2. Install Fabric API and Cobblemon.
  3. Put the Cobblemon Environment Interactions jar in your mods folder.
  4. Start the game.
  5. Join a world and press V to enable Pokemon interactions.

Pokemon interactions are disabled by default each time you join a world, so normal clicking is safe until you turn them on.

Controls

Action Input
Enable or disable Pokemon interactions V
Mine with a mounted Pokemon Ride a Pokemon and left-click
Use a mounted Pokemon's type utility Ride a Pokemon and right-click
Mine with a companion Pokemon Sneak-left-click with exactly one owned Pokemon nearby
Use a companion Pokemon's type utility Sneak-right-click with exactly one owned Pokemon nearby

Companion commands only work when exactly one owned Pokemon is nearby.

How It Works

Left-click mining breaks blocks using the Pokemon you are riding or commanding. The stronger offensive stat, Attack or Special Attack, controls mining power. Speed lowers the mining cooldown.

Right-click utilities use the Pokemon's type. Some utilities work on the aimed block, while others work on dropped items near the target. Higher stats mean larger areas, more processed items, better rolls, or stronger special outputs.

Held items matter. A Pokemon holding the matching type item gets a +50 power boost for mining and utilities. Dual-type Pokemon can also use a matching held item to choose which of their types to use.

Default Tiering And Behavior

Default mining tiers:

Pokemon mining power Impact radius Range
Below 50 0 8 blocks
50-149 1 11 blocks
150+ 2 15 blocks

Default utility tiers for most right-click utilities:

Pokemon utility power Dropped item limit Block area radius
Below 50 8 0
50-149 16 1
150-299 32 2
300+ 64 3

Steel prospecting uses a fixed 3x3 footprint and scales depth instead of radius:

Steel utility power Prospecting area
Below 50 3x3x1
50-149 3x3x2
150-299 3x3x3
300+ 3x3x4

Default utility cooldowns:

Speed Cooldown
Below 50 10 seconds
50-149 5 seconds
150-299 2 seconds
300+ 0 seconds

Some powerful actions, such as rare crafting, hive harvesting, camp cooking, and large repairs, use a longer cooldown.

Safety

The mod is designed to be useful without surprising you.

  • Interactions stay off until you press V.
  • Companion commands require exactly one owned Pokemon nearby.
  • Mining, Rock tunnels, and Steel prospecting use block-breaking safety rules.
  • Many block utilities are surface-aware, so they do not change hidden blocks through a solid cover layer.
  • Protection mods can stop mining through Fabric block-break events.

Right-click utilities can still intentionally change blocks or consume dropped items, so treat V like a tool mode.

The code release is coming soon.

  • Added shared utility stat tiers:
    • Dropped item limits: 8/16/32/64.
    • Most block AOE radii: 0/1/2/3.
    • Shared cooldown tiers by Speed: 10s/5s/2s/0s.
  • Added longer cooldown handling for powerful actions such as rare crafting, beehive harvesting, Normal camp cooking, Fighting repair, Flying gusts, and Dragon shulker shell crafting.
  • Added Mod Menu integration and a Cloth Config screen.
  • Added a config restore-defaults flow for regenerating the current release defaults.
  • Added dedicated block-breaking safety settings for mining, Rock tunnels, and Steel prospecting.
  • Added block allowlist and denylist support for block-breaking safety.

  • Fixed companion command feedback and range validation.
  • Fixed several type utility edge cases through the 3.0.0 overhaul and follow-up cleanup commits.

Configuration Notes

  • Existing config files are merged with new defaults on load when keys are missing.

Cobblemon Environment Interactions

Turn your Cobblemon partners into useful field companions.

Cobblemon Environment Interactions adds Pokemon-powered mining while riding a Cobblemon Pokemon or commanding one nearby companion Pokemon.

Supported stack:

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • Fabric Loader 0.18.4+
  • Fabric API 0.116.11+1.21.1
  • Cobblemon 1.7.3+1.21.1
  • Java 21

Gameplay

Pokemon mining is disabled by default to prevent accidental world damage.

Press V to toggle Pokemon mining on or off. When enabled:

  • Left click while riding a Cobblemon Pokemon to mine with that Pokemon.
  • Sneak-left-click while exactly one owned Pokemon is out within 12 blocks to command that companion Pokemon.
  • If more than one owned Pokemon is out nearby, companion mining is refused until only one is out.

Mining uses the acting Pokemon's stats:

  • Attack controls impact radius.
  • Special Attack controls range and helps projectile speed.
  • Speed lowers cooldown and helps projectile speed.
  • The detected primary type controls the configured visual flavor.
  • Dual-type Pokemon with Normal plus another type prefer the non-Normal type.

The projectile is aimed from the Pokemon to the block or point under the player's cursor. Blocks are broken only on impact. Bedrock, unbreakable blocks, and wither-immune blocks are skipped. The mod also calls Fabric's block-break event before breaking blocks so other mods have a chance to veto mining.

Visual Config

On first launch, the mod creates:

config/cobblemon-environment-interactions.json

Each Pokemon type has:

  • mode: cobblemon, vanilla, or both
  • move: Cobblemon action-effect move name
  • particle: vanilla particle id
  • block: block id used when particle is minecraft:block
  • sound: vanilla sound event id
  • soundCooldownTicks: minimum ticks before the same fallback sound can restart

Example:

"rock": {
  "mode": "cobblemon",
  "move": "rockthrow",
  "particle": "minecraft:block",
  "block": "minecraft:stone",
  "sound": "minecraft:block.tuff_bricks.break",
  "soundCooldownTicks": 12
}

Default Cobblemon move mapping:

  • Normal: quickattack
  • Fire: flamethrower
  • Water: watergun
  • Electric: thunderbolt
  • Grass: razorleaf
  • Ice: icebeam
  • Fighting: closecombat
  • Poison: sludgebomb
  • Ground: mudbomb
  • Flying: aerialace
  • Psychic: psybeam
  • Bug: leechlife
  • Rock: rockthrow
  • Ghost: shadowball
  • Dragon: willowisp
  • Dark: scaryface
  • Steel: flashcannon
  • Fairy: moonblast

Available Cobblemon action-effect move names in Cobblemon 1.7.3+1.21.1:

If a configured move has no Cobblemon action effect, the mod falls back to Cobblemon's generic_move when available and vanilla particles/sounds when needed.

Multiplayer

Install the same jar on the client and server.

The server validates that the player is riding a Cobblemon Pokemon or has exactly one owned companion Pokemon nearby. The client toggle only controls whether the local player intercepts left click for Pokemon mining.

Test Checklist

  1. Start Minecraft with Fabric API, Cobblemon, and this mod.
  2. Enter a world.
  3. Press V and confirm the action bar says Pokemon mining is enabled.
  4. Ride a Cobblemon Pokemon and left click toward blocks.
  5. Send out exactly one owned Pokemon, stand within 12 blocks, sneak-left-click toward blocks.
  6. Confirm blocks break on impact and the configured visuals play.
  7. Press V again and confirm normal mining is no longer intercepted.
