Cherry Blossom Grotto

The Cherry Blossom Grotto mod is a set of new biomes and features based around new cherry blossom trees. This mod includes a custom village type, new structures that can spawn naturally within new and vanilla biomes and even new entities which help populate the new biomes.

This mod is intended for Minecraft versions pre-1.20. It will not be getting a 1.20 release since vanilla now has its own cherry trees. If you would like to utilize some of the experimental content of this mod in Minecraft 1.20 and above, please check out my other mod: Eastward Journeys.

 

Setup

This is a Forge mod only. Currently there are no plans for a Fabric or Quilt version.

Currently supported for Minecarft 1.19, 1.18 and 1.16.

Requires Minecraft Forge.

Versions running on Minecraft 1.18.2 and above depends on TerraBlender for biome generation!

Versions 1.2.0-v1.19.3 of the mod introduces new entities which depend on Geckolib for their animations!

Use of this mod requires both the server and clients have it installed.

 

Features

Biomes

• Cherry Blossom Grotto. This is a forested biome of cherry blossom trees which has a low spawn rate for iron ore.
• Cherry Blossom Slopes. This is a snowy mountain biome which has a low spawn rate for iron ore and contains spaced out cherry blossom trees and hotsprings.
• Cherry Blossom Bamboo Jungle. This is a densely forested jungle biome which has a low spawn rate for iron ore and has cherry blossom trees interspersed with bamboo.
BIOMES IN BETA (set the mapleBiomes config setting to false to disable them):
• Maple woods. This is a forested biome of red maple trees. Beehives have a high spawn rate on these new trees
• Oak & Maple Forest. A forest of fancy oak trees interspersed with maple trees.

World Gen Features

• New tree type, the cherry blossom tree. This includes new leaves, all new wood blocks and items, and a new mechanic for dropping piles of leaves beneath their canopies! As well as multiple sizes and generation patterns including standard, fancy and grand cherry blossom trees. All forms use unique trunk and canopy generation that makes them stand out from vanilla Minecraft trees!
• Hotsprings! These are unique to the Cherry Blossom Slopes biome, spawning in snowy mountainsides as pools of water speckled with mossy cobblestone at their rim and magma blocks heating the water at their base.

Structures

• Giant buddha statue structure, which generates naturally in many biomes. There's said to be hidden treasure within these statues...
• Torii gate structure, which generates naturally in many biomes.
• Ruined portal variant for the new Cherry Blossom biomes. Which is designed to look like a ruined torii gate!
• A new village type which generates exclusively in cherry blossom biomes! This rare new village types contains all new building designs and a village meeting point may spawn containing a pond of koi fish. The only place where these new fish can be found in the world currently! The villagers spawning in these villagers wear unique robes.

Entities

• Koi fish. These fish generate with randomly from a pool of set patterns so they have a few colour variations. They are exceedingly rare fish to find in the world.
• Tanooki. These mischevious raccoon dogs are passive creatures which are always hungry for food and have an eye for shiny objects. They'll be quick to grab and steal any items that interests them left in the world!

Items

• Katanas. These are variants of swords which can be folded with additional iron ingots to increase their strength.
• Kunai. An expensive but decently powerful throwing weapon.
• Shuriken. A cheap but weak throwing weapon.
• Hidden trapdoors. Trapdoors which look just like any other common blocks! Most wooden plank and stone types have a variant of these hidden trapdoors now.
• Shoji screens. These new 2-height blocks are placed like a door and act as a thin wall which does not block light.
• Rice. Grow rice on dirt submerged in single-deep blocks of water. Rice can be harvested and crafted into new food items.
• Onigiri. A simple food item of rice and seaweed
• Zen lanterns. Two new japanese-styled garden lanterns can be crafted with stones and torches or soul flame torches. They also spawn naturally in cherry blossom grotto villages.
• Tatami Mats. New carpet blocks in two colours, each with 1x1 and 2x1 size variants.
• Ninja Robes. A new set of armour crafted from black wool and leather with a unique skin. Its armour rating is equivalent to leather armour.
• Kabuto Armour. A new set of armour crafted from red wool and iron with a unique skin. Its armour rating is equivalent to iron armour.
• Cherry Blossom Petals. Harvest the fallen piles of cherry blossom petals beneath the tree canopies to recieve these petals. They can be used in some of this mod's crafting recipes or converted into pink dye.
• Cherry Blossom Sapling. New sapling that will grow into a cherry blossom tree. If planted into a grid of 4 saplings, may grow into a grand cherry blossom tree. Dropped by decaying cherry blossom leaves. Can be potted.

Enchantments

• Double Jumping. A new enchantment that can be applied to any armour boots and allows for the user to double jump!

Recipes

• Pink dye - Now craftable from a single cherry blossom petal
• Onigiri - A triangle of rice with the middle-bottom of the recipe containing a piece of kelp
• Hidden trapdoors - Same as the recipe for any trapdoor in vanilla Minecraft, but with a layer of cherry blossom petals across the top
• Tatami Mat - A criss-cross pattern of string and bamboo. Add another row to craft a 2x1 variant
• Aged Tatami Mat - A criss-cross pattern of string and wheat. Add another row to craft a 2x1 variant
• Kunai - A triangle of iron nuggets on top of a tripwire hook
• Shuriken - diamond pattern of 4 iron nuggets, leaving an empty space in the center
• Katana - Like the standard recipe for a sword in vanilla Minecraft but angled with the stick in the bottom-left and the iron ingots moving up to the top-right. Beneath each iron ingot is a cherry blossom petal
• Katana Folding - A katana with an additional iron ingot
• Kabuto Helmet _ A row of iron ingots on two supports of red dye
• Kabuto Chestplate - Two rows of iron ingots hanging rom two supports of red dye
• Kabuto Leggings - Like the vanilla recipe for iron leggings but with two red dye items or the kneecaps
• Kabuto Sandals - Two iron ingots spaced apart in a row, with two red dye underneath each ingot
• Ninja Mask - Two columns of black wool with a two pieces of leather forming a box
• Ninja Tunic - Two rows of black wool hanging from two pieces of iron supports
• Ninja Leggings - Like the vanilla recipe for iron leggings but with one piece of leather for the codpiece
• Ninja Sandals - Two black wood spaced apart in a row, with two wooden planks underneath each wool
• Zen Lantern - Stone or cobblestone surrounding a torch, with the bottom-middle space free
• Soulflame Zen Lantern - Stone or cobblestone surrounding a soulflame torch, with the bottom-middle space free
• Shoji Screen - Grid of paper with a stick in each corner
• Cherry blossom wooden items/blocks - All the recipes you'd expect to work on vanilla wood blocks (stairs, fences, buttons, etc.) will also work to craft cherry blossom wood variants!

 

Additional compatibility

Now compatible with Motschen's Better Leaves resourcepack in Minecraft 1.19+! Instructions and assets needed to improve cherry blossom trees can be found here.
