Backrooms Bounded

Backrooms Bounded is a psychological horror mod for Fabric 1.21.1, heavily inspired by the Backrooms by Kane Pixels (Kane Parsons).

Unlike traditional dimension mods, Backrooms Bounded focuses on tension, paranoia, and survival.

Features

Endless Procedural Backrooms

Every hallway, room, and corridor is procedurally generated, creating an infinite maze:

  • Endless interconnected hallways
  • Multiple floor levels
  • Decaying and infected wallpaper
  • Flickering lights
  • Empty lockers and forgotten objects
  • Bacterial growths spreading throughout the complex
  • Massive office rings spanning thousands of blocks
  • Randomly generated loot in barrels (works with other mods too)

Panic System

Spending time in darkness and isolation slowly raises your panic level. As panic increases, so do the psychological effects, making survival increasingly difficult.

  • Heartbeat sounds at high panic
  • Visual disturbances
  • Random panic effects at extreme levels
  • Panic affects how entities detect you

Survival Horror

  • Armor becomes less reliable over time
  • Resources must be scavenged from the environment
  • Stealth is often more valuable than speed
  • Sound matters
  • Every decision can attract unwanted entities
  • Hiding in lockers may work for some time
  • Sneaking on wool/carpet/moss makes you harder to detect

Organic Infection

Bacterial growths spread across walls, floors, and ceilings. These organisms slowly corrupt nearby blocks and seem connected to whatever lurks within the Backrooms.

  • Bacteria shrooms that detect noise
  • Bacteria vines that spread across surfaces
  • 3 strikes from shrooms alerts the bacterium

Soundscape

Backrooms Bounded includes a collection of ambient sounds and environmental audio.

Expect:

  • Distant ambient noises
  • Unsettling atmosphere
  • Dynamic panic effects
  • Entity audio cues

Headphones are highly recommended.

Entering the Backrooms

The methods of entering and escaping the Backrooms are intentionally left undisclosed to preserve discovery.

(Hint: Every entry and exit chance is configurable)

Entities

The Bacterium

A mysterious entity roams the Backrooms.

The longer you survive, the more dangerous it becomes.

⚠ Spoiler: Bacterium Behavior
  • Uses multiple methods to track players
  • Reacts to sound and environmental disturbances
  • Can stalk, observe, and ambush its targets
  • Adapts to player behavior
  • Learns new interactions over time
  • Becomes increasingly effective against common hiding strategies
  • Can be distracted by thrown projectiles
  • Checks lockers
  • Struggles to hear players sneaking on wool/carpet/moss

The Mimic

Not every figure wandering the Backrooms is what it appears to be.

Trust becomes a dangerous thing.

⚠ Spoiler: Mimic Information

The Mimic can disguise itself as a player. Depending on your behavior, it may act as a companion, observe from a distance, or become hostile.

  • Responds to player commands (sometimes)
  • Can follow, stay, pick up items, open containers (sometimes)
  • Becomes aggressive if provoked

Corpses

Four types of corrupted corpses roam different dimensions. Each has unique behaviors, detection methods, and interactions. Some remain dormant until disturbed. Others are always active.

⚠ Spoiler: Corpse Information

Villager Corpse:

  • Spawns in backrooms (outside of office rings)
  • 3-hit system to destroy dormant corpse
  • Relies on sound and smell
  • Screams to alert the bacterium
  • Can follow through 1-block spaces
  • Opens doors, gates, and trapdoors
  • Leather armor increases smell range
  • Wool/carpet/moss reduces hearing

Player Corpse:

  • Spawns when a player dies in the backrooms
  • Stores the player's entire inventory as a grave
  • Never despawns
  • 3-hit system to retrieve loot
  • Relies on hearing (better than villager corpse, but has shorter smelling range)
  • Breaks wooden doors, climbs ladders
  • Can crawl through 1-block spaces

Enderman Corpse:

  • Spawns in overworld, nether, and end
  • Always active
  • Aggro when hit or shot (no eye-based aggro)
  • Small chance to aggro when player kills villager corpse nearby
  • Water/rain immune
  • Cannot pick up blocks
  • Calm with Ender Pearl or Eye of Ender
  • Enraged by Spider Eye
  • Occasional custom sounds

Creeper Corpse:

  • Spawns rarely in overworld and backrooms
  • Always active
  • Triple explosion power
  • Can be charged by lightning
  • Spreads bacteria vines across crater
  • Blindness effect for 5 seconds to nearby players

Printer

Rarely found in office cubicles, these blocks can transform items.

⚠ Spoiler: Printer Mechanics
  • Accepts any item from your hand
  • Returns a random crafting result using that item
  • 30% chance to return the same item
  • 5% chance to jam (permanently consumes the item)
  • 5 uses per player, then 40-minute cooldown
  • Works with items from other mods
  • Glows when processing
