Axolostry expands Minecraft’s axolotls with a progression system based on genetics, controlled breeding, vivariums, machines, and resource production.
The mod is inspired by Forestry: select suitable parents, analyze inherited traits, discover new species, and develop breeding lines that produce useful materials.
Breeding
Axolotls are bred inside vivariums using defined breeding recipes.
A breeding recipe may require:
- Specific parent species
- A particular fluid
- A suitable vivarium tier
- A supporting block placed beneath the vivarium
Breeding creates a temporary hybrid that transforms after a countdown. Its health is calculated from the health of both parents, and one health point corresponds to one second of transformation time.
The final offspring is selected according to the chances defined by the breeding recipe.
Genetics
Axolotls inherit characteristics from their parents.
Available genetic traits include:
- Color
- Health
- Speed
- Regeneration
- Resource production speed
The analyzer displays an axolotl’s genes and helps select suitable specimens for future breeding.
Vivariums
Vivariums are used to keep axolotls, breed new species, and produce resources.
Different breeding recipes require different vivarium tiers. Some recipes also require a specific fluid or supporting block.
Axolotls can be fed with fish:
- Regular fish restores health
- Pufferfish reduces adult health and accelerates hybrid transformation
Species and Hybrids
Crossing different axolotl species can produce new varieties.
Some species are obtained directly, while others require several breeding stages, specific conditions, or previously discovered axolotls.
During transformation, the vivarium displays a hybrid texture created from both parent species.
Resource Production
Adult axolotls can produce resources based on their species.
Basic species provide common materials, while advanced breeding lines unlock more valuable outputs. Production speed is affected by the axolotl’s genes.
Produced materials can be collected and processed using Axolostry machines.
