AlternativeDeath
This data pack introduces an alternative death penalty and is designed for gameplay with /gamerule keepInventory true (but it also has a version for playing without this rule). It caters to players who don’t want to lose their items upon death but still wish to feel the fear of dying.
Features
- Two Versions Available – One for use with keepInventory true and another for standard gameplay.
- Death Penalty – Upon death, the player's maximum HP is reduced to 6 (3 hearts).
- Health Regeneration – Restores 2 HP (1 heart) every 20 minutes (24,000 ticks) starting from the moment of death.
- In the version designed for keepInventory true, after death, the player's experience drops as three experience orbs (items remain in the inventory).
- The data pack also works in multiplayer.
Compatibility Warning
This datapack is not recommended for use alongside mods or other datapacks that modify player HP, as proper functionality is not guaranteed.
Note
If you want to play with /gamerule keepInventory true enabled but don’t want to lose experience, simply use the version without keepInventory and enable /gamerule keepInventory true manually.

The data pack has been split into two versions: one with keepInventory support and one without.
In the keepInventory-enabled version, a new mechanic has been introduced: upon player death, a portion of their experience is dropped as three XP orbs.

This is the first version of the datapack. The following features have been implemented:
Death Penalty – Upon death, the player's maximum HP is reduced to 6 (3 hearts).
Health Regeneration – Every in-game day, the player recovers 2 HP (1 heart).
Experience Reset – If /gamerule keepInventory true is enabled, the player's experience resets upon death.
