Hunt for a hidden piece of TNT with limited guesses!

This data pack allows you to turn any world into a TNT hunting mini-game, where one block is secretly a piece of super-powered TNT, and you have a limited number of guesses to find it! Each guess will tell you how far away the TNT is, so you can gradually deduce its actual location. But if you think it's nearby, be careful, as mining it will instantly end the game! Still confused? There are several functions for changing settings and playing the game:

Command Description
/function findthetnt:start_game Hides a piece of TNT and starts the selected Game Mode.
/function findthetnt:end_game Instantly ends the current game and cleans up the arena.
/function findthetnt:settings Allows you to change the Game Mode, adjust gameplay settings, and change the size of the arena.
/function findthetnt:set_world_center Changes the center of the arena to the command execution location.

Here are all of the settings in the settings menu:

  • Game Mode Settings
    • Limited Time
      • The game lasts for a limited amount of time, and every guess removes some time from the timer. The game time and the amount removed per-guess can be configured.
    • Guess Limit
      • The game lasts for an unlimited amount of time, but there are a limited number of guesses, which can be configured.
  • Play Area Settings
    • This controls the size of the Play Area, measured in the diameter of the area in blocks (similar to how the World Border works). Where the Play Area is centered must be changed with the findthetnt:set_world_center function.
  • Flag Settings
    • Distance
      • Failed guesses will display how many blocks away the hidden TNT is.
    • Hot/Cold
      • Failed guesses will display whether they are closer or further away (hotter or colder) without giving exact numbers. The closest flag will as always marked with "CLOSEST".
  • Settings Preset
    • This allows players to easily copy/paste their settings as a single piece of text for sharing and reuse.

Known Limitations:

  1. I have not tested this game in Multiplayer, I think it should generally work, but I have a feeling there may be some issues I've not yet considered, so please report these on my Discord if you find them.

  • Further bug-fixes for Hot/Cold Flags. This version should finally definitively deliver the intended "temperature weights" as described in the changelog for version 26.2-11, which has been inaccurate for the last 3 versions.

  • Fixed a major bug that made the new percentage-based Hot/Cold flags flat-out not work. Please report issues to my Discord if this continues to give problems.

  • Hot/Cold Flags have new logic for determining their text and color to make them more useful in both small and large Play Areas. The following percentages are based off of the Play Area size:
    • If the TNT is 0%-0.1% away, it says HOT in Dark Red.
    • If the TNT is 0.1%-1% away, it says HOT in Red.
    • If the TNT is 1%-5% away, it says HOT in Orange.
    • If the TNT is 5%-10% away, it says WARM in Yellow.
    • If the TNT is 10%-20% away, it says WARM in Light Yellow.
    • If the TNT is 20%-50% away, it says COLD in Blue.
    • If the TNT is 50%-100% away, it says COLD in White Blue.
    • As an example, if the arena is 3000 blocks wide, and the TNT is 3 to 30 blocks away, it will say HOT in Red.
  • The closest flag will now say (CLOSEST) to avoid confusion over the meaning of words like "Warmer" or "Hotter"

  • When players run out of time or run out of flags (depending on the Game Mode), they will now be put into Spectator Mode instead of exploding.
  • Settings Presets have been slimmed down to remove excess data only used for dialog macros.   • Fixed the Super TNT Item Display summoning at the player's location when they lose due to running out of time or running out of flags.

  • The closest flag in Hot/Cold mode will now always be forceloaded, and will behave as expected (previously the game would forget what the last closest flag was due to it being in unloaded chunks).
  • Flag counts are now consistent, even if some flags are unloaded.
    • Note: When the game ends, flags in unloaded chunks are still not removed from the world. I'll have to spend some time making a system for tracking them and removing them at a later date, but for now this game is probably best played on freshly generated single-use worlds.
