Amethyst Nether

Amethyst Nether is a datapack and mod that transforms the Nether by giving it a new appearance, adding biomes, structures, mobs, items, recipes, advancements, and more.

📝 Description

The project was released in December 2022. It was created by amethyst137 and continued by bbschef, who is currently in charge. It is recommended to use Amethyst Nether in new worlds, and it cannot be removed once applied without a reset (reading the wiki is recommended to learn how to apply it correctly).

World generation uses custom noise values and density functions to modify the terrain, giving it a more cavernous appearance. It includes rivers, caves, canyons, and more.

Biomes

New biomes are added, and vanilla biomes are modified. For more information, read below.

Vanilla

Basalt Deltas

Biome with negative temperature. It is usually found near warped-type biomes. The terrain contains big basalt columns, lava pools, gravel patches, and other features. This gives the biome a dusty appearance. Magma cubes are very common (70%), while ghasts are uncommon (30%). Locate with /locate biome minecraft:basalt_deltas.

Crimson Forest

Biome with positive temperature. It is usually found near soul-type biomes. The terrain contains big crimson fungi, weeping vines, fallen fungi, and crimson vegetation. This gives the biome an overgrown appearance. Hoglins are very common (70%), while piglins are uncommon (30%). Locate with /locate biome minecraft:crimson_forest.

Nether Wastes

Biome with neutral temperature and humidity. It can be found around all Nether biomes. The terrain contains netherrack hills, lava pools, gold and quartz rocks, and other features. This gives the biome a barren appearance. Zombified piglins are very common (70%), ghasts are uncommon (20%), and magma cubes are rare (10%). Locate with /locate biome minecraft:nether_wastes.

Soul Sand Valley

Biome with negative humidity. It is usually found near crimson-type biomes. The terrain contains big basalt pillars, basalt rocks, cracked nether fossils, and skeleton skulls. This gives the biome a desolate appearance. Skeletons are very common (60%), while ghasts are common (40%). Locate with /locate biome minecraft:soul_sand_valley.

Warped Forest

Biome with positive humidity. It is usually found near basalt-type biomes. The terrain contains big warped fungi, twisting vines, fallen fungi, and warped vegetation. This gives the biome an eerie appearance. Endermen are very common (100%). Locate with /locate biome minecraft:warped_forest.

Modded

Black Peaks

Biome with negative temperature and humidity. It is usually found near basalt- and soul-type biomes. The terrain contains big blackstone spikes, amethyst geodes, and amethyst clusters. This gives the biome a jagged appearance. Skeletons are very common (70%), while ghasts are uncommon (30%). Locate with /locate biome an:black_peaks.

Crimson Plains

Biome with positive temperature. It is usually found along the edges of crimson-type biomes. The terrain contains lava lakes, gold rocks, crimson vegetation, and other features. This gives the biome a sparse appearance. Hoglins are very common (80%), while piglins are uncommon (20%). Locate with /locate biome an:crimson_plains.

Basalt Flows

Biome with generally negative temperature and humidity. It is usually found below basalt-dominated biomes. The terrain contains big lava flows, floating basalt formations, and other features. This gives the biome a volcanic appearance. Striders are common (100%). Locate with /locate biome an:basalt_flows.

Nether Flows

Biome with generally positive temperature and humidity. It is usually found below netherrack-dominated biomes. The terrain contains big lava flows, floating netherrack formations, and other features. This gives the biome a volcanic appearance. Striders are common (100%). Locate with /locate biome an:nether_flows.

Old Growth Crimson Forest

Biome with positive temperature. It is usually found in the center of crimson-type biomes. The terrain contains huge 2×2 crimson fungi, weeping vines, fallen fungi, leaf litter, and other features. This gives the biome an ancient appearance. Hoglins are very common (70%), while piglins are uncommon (30%). Locate with /locate biome an:old_growth_crimson_forest.

Old Growth Warped Forest

Biome with positive humidity. It is usually found in the center of warped-type biomes. The terrain contains huge 2×2 warped fungi, twisting vines, fallen fungi, leaf litter, and other features. Sulfur Fields

Biome with negative temperature and humidity. It is usually found near basalt- and soul-type biomes. The terrain contains sulfur springs, lava pools, sulfur spikes, and other features. This gives the biome a toxic appearance. Sulfur cubes are very common (100%). A gas mask is required for safe exploration. Locate with /locate biome an:sulfur_fields.

Warped Plains

Biome with positive humidity. It is usually found along the edges of warped-type biomes. The terrain contains lava lakes, quartz rocks, warped vegetation, and other features. This gives the biome a sparse appearance. Endermen are very common (100%). Locate with /locate biome an:warped_plains.

Wart Heap

Biome with positive temperature and negative humidity. It is usually found near crimson- and soul-type biomes. The terrain contains big heap fungi, nether wart patches, red and brown mushrooms, and other features. This gives the biome a fungal appearance. Zombified piglins are very common (70%), ghasts are uncommon (20%), and skeletons are rare (10%). A gas mask is required for safe exploration. Locate with /locate biome an:wart_heap.

Structures

Bastion Castle

Grand Bastion variant (1/3). It is usually found in crimson-type biomes. The structure contains multiple towers, large bridges, and a central castle with several rooms. This gives the structure an imposing appearance. It includes chests and barrels with (5) loot tables. Piglin swordsmen, crossbowmen, and axemen can be found around the structure. Locate with /locate structure an:bastion_castle.

Bastion Gallery

Grand Bastion variant (2/3). It is usually found in crimson-type biomes. The structure contains two towers, a central platform, and a lava pool below. This gives the structure an elegant appearance. It includes chests and barrels with (3) loot tables. Piglin swordsmen, crossbowmen, and axemen can be found around the structure. Locate with /locate structure an:bastion_gallery.

Bastion Prison

Grand Bastion variant (3/3). It is usually found in crimson-type biomes. The structure contains two towers and multiple prison cells holding sporebacks. This gives the structure a dungeon-like appearance. It includes chests with (3) loot tables. Piglin swordsmen, crossbowmen, and axemen can be found around the structure. Locate with /locate structure an:bastion_prison.

Red Fortress

Nether fortress-style structure. It is usually found in Nether Wastes. The structure contains large bridges, long halls, and small rooms. This gives the structure a fortified appearance. It includes chests with (1) loot table. Wither skeleton swordsmen can be found around the structure. Locate with /locate structure an:red_fortress.

Structure templates

Basalt Vent

Smoke Vent variant (1/2). It is usually found in Basalt Deltas. It consists of natural basalt formations that release smoke into the environment. This gives the structure a natural appearance. Place with /place feature an:5_surface_structure/formation/basalt_vent.

Blackstone Vent

Smoke Vent variant (2/2). It is usually found in Black Peaks. It consists of natural blackstone formations that release smoke into the environment. This gives the structure a natural appearance. Place with /place feature an:5_surface_structure/formation/blackstone_vent.

Soul Tomb

Decorative structure. It is usually found in Soul Sand Valley. It consists of small polished blackstone tombs. This gives the structure a somber appearance. It may contain barrels with (1) loot table. Place with /place feature an:8_underground_decoration/ambient/soul_tomb.

Warped Ruin

Decorative structure. It is usually found in warped-type biomes. It consists of small polished blackstone ruins covered with warped wart. This gives the structure an abandoned appearance. It includes chests with (1) loot table. Some variants may contain traps. Place with /place feature an:8_underground_decoration/ambient/warped_ruin.

Biome variants

Ghosted

Skeleton variant exclusive to Soul Sand Valley with a 15% spawn chance. It wears a chainmail chestplate and wields an enchanted sword. There is a 25% chance for it to spawn with a bow. All of its attacks set the player on fire. There is a 2.5% chance for it to spawn as a jockey variant. It includes (1) death loot table. Summonable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/eggs/ghosted_spawn_egg.

Sporeback

Zombified piglin variant exclusive to Wart Heap with a 25% spawn chance. It wears leather pants and may spawn with or without a weapon. It is covered with fungi and releases spores. It attacks both players and other piglins. It includes (1) death loot table. Summonable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/eggs/sporeback_spawn_egg.

Volatile Sulfur Cube

Sulfur cube variant exclusive to Sulfur Fields with a 35% spawn chance. It is slightly larger than a normal sulfur cube. If it detects a non-sneaking player within 4 blocks, it causes a large explosion. It includes (1) death loot table. Summonable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/eggs/volatile_sulfur_cube_spawn_egg.

Structure variants

Piglin (Grand Bastion)

Piglin variant exclusive to Grand Bastions. It consists of (4) variants: axeman, crossbowman, rider, and swordsman. There is a 25% chance for a variant to spawn with a piece of netherite equipment. There is a 15% chance for the rider variant to spawn in crimson-type biomes. It includes (4) death loot tables. Summonable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/eggs/piglin_swordsman_spawn_egg.

Wither Skeleton (Red Fortress)

Wither skeleton variant exclusive to Red Fortress. It consists of (1) variant: swordsman. There is a 25% chance for it to spawn with a piece of netherite equipment. It includes (1) death loot table. Summonable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/eggs/wither_skeleton_swordsman_spawn_egg.

Banners

Bridge Banner

Uncraftable banner exclusive to Red Fortress. It is red and features a blaze design. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/functional/bridge_banner.

Greed Banner

Uncraftable banner exclusive to Grand Bastions. It is yellow and features a piglin snout design. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/functional/greed_banner.

Heads

Ghosted Skull

Skull obtained by killing a Ghosted, with a 5% drop chance. It has a unique sound when placed on a note block. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/functional/ghosted_skull.

Piglin Brute Head

Head obtained by killing a Piglin Axeman in Grand Bastions, with a 5% drop chance. It has a unique sound when placed on a note block. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/functional/piglin_brute_head.

Sporeback Head

Head obtained by killing a Sporeback, with a 5% drop chance. It has a unique sound when placed on a note block. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:uncraftable/functional/sporeback_head.

Equipment

Gilded Netherite Helmet

Armor piece craftable with 1 netherite upgrade smithing template, 1 netherite helmet, and 1 gold block in a smithing table. Grants +4 armor, +3 armor toughness, +15% knockback resistance, and reduces burning time by 20%. Durability: 468. It can be repaired in an anvil using a gold ingot. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/equipment/gilded_netherite_helmet.

Gilded Netherite Chestplate

Armor piece craftable with 1 netherite upgrade smithing template, 1 netherite chestplate, and 1 gold block in a smithing table. Grants +9 armor, +4.5 armor toughness, +25% knockback resistance, and reduces burning time by 40%. Durability: 681. It can be repaired in an anvil using a gold ingot. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/equipment/gilded_netherite_chestplate.

Gilded Netherite Leggings

Armor piece craftable with 1 netherite upgrade smithing template, 1 netherite leggings, and 1 gold block in a smithing table. Grants +7 armor, +4 armor toughness, +20% knockback resistance, and reduces burning time by 30%. Durability: 638. It can be repaired in an anvil using a gold ingot. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/equipment/gilded_netherite_leggings.

Gilded Netherite Boots

Armor piece craftable with 1 netherite upgrade smithing template, 1 netherite boots, and 1 gold block in a smithing table. Grants +4 armor, +2.5 armor toughness, +10% knockback resistance, and reduces burning time by 10%. Durability: 553. It can be repaired in an anvil using a gold ingot. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/equipment/gilded_netherite_boots.

Gilded Netherite Shield

Armor piece craftable with 1 netherite upgrade smithing template, 1 shield, and 1 gold block in a smithing table. Grants +10% knockback resistance and +60% explosion knockback resistance. Fire-resistant when dropped. Durability: 420. It can be repaired in an anvil using a gold ingot. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/equipment/gilded_netherite_shield.

Food

Crimson Soup

Food item craftable with 1 red mushroom, 1 crimson fungus, 1 nether wart, and 1 bowl. It restores +6 hunger and +1.2 saturation. When consumed, there is a 30% chance to grant fire resistance for 30 seconds. It is stackable. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/food/crimson_soup.

Enchanted Golden Carrot

Food item craftable with 8 gold blocks and 1 carrot. It restores the same hunger and saturation as a normal golden carrot. When consumed, it grants invisibility for 2:30 minutes, jump boost II for 30 seconds, night vision for 2:30 minutes, and speed I for 1:30 minutes. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/food/enchanted_golden_carrot.

Warped Stew

Food item craftable with 1 brown mushroom, 1 warped fungus, 1 porkchop, and 1 bowl. It restores +8 hunger and +1.6 saturation. When consumed, there is a 30% chance to receive nausea for 30 seconds. It is stackable. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/food/warped_stew.

Misc

Bomb

Item craftable with 1 string, 2 gunpowder, 1 fire charge, and 1 iron ingot. It is a throwable explosive used with right-click. It is recommended to use it with caution. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/misc/bomb.

Crimson Funglet

Item craftable with 8 bone meal and 1 crimson fungus. When placed on nylium, it grows a crimson fungus. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/misc/crimson_funglet.

Gas Mask

Item craftable with 3 leather, 2 tinted glass, 1 coal block, and 3 netherite scrap. It is required to enter toxic biomes. It grants +2 armor and has 64 durability. While used in toxic biomes, it loses 1 durability every minute. It can be repaired in an anvil using coal. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/misc/gas_mask.

Heap Funglet

Item craftable with 8 bone meal and 1 nether wart. When placed on soul soil, it grows a heap fungus. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/misc/heap_funglet.

Warped Funglet

Item craftable with 8 bone meal and 1 warped fungus. When placed on nylium, it grows a warped fungus. Obtainable with /loot give @s loot an:craftable/misc/warped_funglet.

Gameplay

Dried Ghast uncraftable

Dried Ghast is no longer craftable, and its generation frequency in Nether Fossils was reduced significantly.

Gunpowder craftable

Gunpowder is now craftable. Requires 1 charcoal, 1 bone meal, and 1 potent sulfur. Produces 3 gunpowder.

Impassable roof

Starting at Y=156, ender pearls break when they hit bedrock. This is designed to prevent players from passing through the bedrock roof.

Others

Piglin zombification

When a piglin or hoglin enters the Wart Heap biome, it transforms into an undead after a short time. It can become a Sporeback and attack both players and other piglins.

Toxic biomes

Biomes such as Sulfur Fields and Wart Heap are toxic for both the player and other entities. A gas mask is required to avoid negative effects such as poison or weakness.

Ore distribution

New ore distributions are added. For more information, read below.

Generic

Ancient Debris

Ore can generate from Y=0 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine in flow-type biomes at Y≈24 using fire resistance potions, or in cave-type biomes at Y≈140 using explosives.

Glowstone

Ore can generate from Y=80 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine in any Nether biome at Y≈105, or in Sulfur Fields, where it has a ×3 generation multiplier. A gas mask is required in Sulfur Fields.

Basalt biomes

Deepslate Coal Ore

Ore can generate from Y=0 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine at ground level in Basalt Deltas, or in Basalt Caves from Y=130 and above using a pickaxe.

Deepslate Gold Ore

Ore can generate from Y=0 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine at ground level in Basalt Deltas, or in Basalt Caves from Y=130 and above using a pickaxe.

Deepslate Iron Ore

Ore can generate from Y=0 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine at ground level in Basalt Deltas, or in Basalt Caves from Y=130 and above using a pickaxe.

Netherrack biomes

Nether Gold Ore

Ore can generate from Y=0 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine at ground level in crimson-type biomes, where it has a generation multiplier around Y≈40, or in Nether Caves from Y=130 and above using a pickaxe.

Nether Quartz Ore

Ore can generate from Y=0 to Y=160. It is recommended to mine at ground level in warped-type biomes, where it has a generation multiplier around Y≈40, or in Nether Caves from Y=130 and above by mining quartz geodes.

Technical details

Technical information is provided. For more details, read below.

Adjust mob spawn rates
  1. Use the datapack version of the project.
  2. Open the ZIP file.
  3. Navigate to the biome file you want to adjust:
    • data → an → worldgen → biome (for a custom biome).
    • data → minecraft → worldgen → biome (for a vanilla biome).
  4. Open the selected biome file.
  5. Locate the "spawners" section.
  6. Adjust the mob weight values as you like and save the changes.

Note:
It is recommended to keep the total at 100. For example, in Soul Sand Valley, you can lower the skeleton weight from 75 to 65 and raise the ghast weight from 25 to 35.

Remove a specific custom entity
  1. Use the datapack version of the project.
  2. Open the ZIP file.
  3. Navigate to data → an → function → entities and open sort_entity.mcfunction.
  4. Locate the section for the entity you want to remove.
  5. Delete the entire line and save the changes.

The selected custom entity will no longer be generated.

Remove a specific custom item
  1. Use the datapack version of the project.
  2. Open the ZIP file.
  3. Navigate to data → an → recipe → (select the category) and delete the item recipe.
  4. Navigate to data → an → advancement → recipe → (select the category) and delete the item recipe advancement.
  5. Save the changes.

If the item is also added through a loot table:

  1. Complete all previous steps first.
  2. Navigate to data → an → loot_table → chests → grand_bastion and open the loot table file.
  3. Find "type": "minecraft:loot_table" and replace its value with "an:uncraftable/empty".
  4. Save the changes.
Remove all custom entities
  1. Use the datapack version of the project.
  2. Open the ZIP file.
  3. Navigate to data → an → function → timer and open 1s.mcfunction.
  4. Locate the ## entities sorting section.
  5. Delete the entire line and save the changes.

Custom entities will no longer be generated.

Remove impassable roof
  1. Use the datapack version of the project.
  2. Open the ZIP file.
  3. Navigate to data → an → function → timer and open tick.mcfunction.
  4. Locate the ### ender_pearl.
  5. Delete the entire line and save the changes.

Ender pearls will now behave as in vanilla.

Reset
  1. Leave the Nether and exit the world.
  2. Make a backup of your world.
  3. Install NBTExplorer.
  4. Open the backup using NBTExplorer.
  5. Open /datapacks and delete the datapack.
  6. Delete the /DIM-1 folder.
  7. Open /level.dat.
  8. In Data → DataPacks → Enabled, delete Amethyst Nether.
  9. In Data → WorldGenSettings → dimensions, delete minecraft:the_nether.
  10. Save the changes.

The Nether is now fully reset, and you can install a newer version of Amethyst Nether or any other datapack or mod.

📌 Notes

  • Not compatible with datapacks or mods that change Nether world generation, such as Incendium, Amplified Nether, BetterNether, or Biomes O' Plenty.
  • Compatible with datapacks or mods that add Nether structures, such as Dungeon and Taverns or Uncovery.
